I LOVE River but I don't want her to be a companion! Still haven't watched last nights episode so this thread was dangerous territory - oops!

I don't mind river and it would be interesting to see capaldis doctor meeting river. Smiths doctor was a lot younger so having an older doctor might show a different type of relationship. I do however feel they've kind of messed river up.
What did people think. Not my favourite but thought it was a great two parter. I like the format this series, a lot more space for story and character development
Would have preferred it if:
Davros didn't just go classical villain again with the whole regeneration and snakes thing and simply saw the sunset and died. I liked the idea of them showing Davros to not be evil as such, just him doing what he thought was right but perhaps I'm asking too much for a show which is aimed at kids/the family.
Next episode looks bad.
The problem with that is death never seems to final in doctor who. Assistants seem to apparently die regularly these days only to come back somehow.Would have preferred it if:

I think if Clara is really truly leaving, we should have an actual death. I was slightly annoyed with Amy and Rory's death originally, due to the fact that they actually were alive and simply stuck in the past, the doctor apparently not able to go back. The reason was it felt like they left it open for a possible reunion which in turn ruins the original impact of their emotional episode (just look at Rose for an example). But my opinion has slightly changed - I think in some way the doctor could actually go back but it's the fact that he knows they are safe and going back could put them in danger and would be very selfish on his part. It reminds me of the apparently death of Donna - She's alive but it's far more complicated than that - all the changes she went through because of her adventures with the doctor, all her development ends up being forgotten.
That said I think we need a real death, something concrete. I also want the next assistant to be similar to Donna in the fact we see some changes, development. I'm not a Clara hater but I feel she's just there going through the motions. I think with her the thing that made her was her mystery, the impossible girl. Now that the mystery is solved, there just isn't much else
that was def the best episode in the series so far for me.
We part, only to meet again. 12/11/04
Classic base under seige episode
