Well I've had a few dealing with PayPal, I'll post here because I don't want to happen to you what happened to me.

I also sold some online stuff via PayPal, and later made a new account (for security reasons) so that I could transfer funds from the account that people knew the email to, to an account that only I knew the e-mail to. I did this a couple of times and they ended up e-mailing me saying the same thing, that for 'security reasons' they had frozen my account, and deducted the money.

My advice is DON'T just ignore it and think 'ah it's only a bit of money I'll just leave it', sort it out straight away because before you know it they're sending you emails saying they're filing a lawsuit against you. For me, even though they'd took the money for 'security reasons', they e-mailed me a good few week later asking for the money back what they'd taken in the first place. I ignored the first few e-mails because they didnt look too threatening, but then they started threatening lawsuits and collection agencies, so I called my uncle (who works in Police Computer Fraud area) and he came and e-mailed them.

I'm also not 18, so I couldn't prove my identity in order to get my account back, and by this time I'd also forgot my password to the account anyway, so I was in even more trouble. I sent them a long e-mail and they promised to do a full investigation and get back to me within 30 days, they failed to do so, so I emailed them back asking them for a 'concluded investigation within 14 days' and that 'failure to do so will result in me contacting the financial ombudsman regarding the matter'. Fortunately I haven't had another e-mail back, but I heard that as soon as you threaten them with anything they are legally obliged to not try to resolve the matter and instead just refer the matter to an independant agency.

Basically, don't ignore the e-mails and hope the problem will go away, speak to someone and sort it straight away.

Daza, you must understand when you buy something you are covered upto £500. Now, it would take 2 minutes for them to trace the guy up as they have all his details logged: old credit cards, phone numbers, old bank accounts; any old address with paypal and so on. I dont feel that they have delt with this, I/they had full proof that it was fraud. I wouldnt be bothered BUT I need to cancel my account because my spending limit is almost zero a few pence off. I need to wait for them to do this again, I wish people used bank transfers more.

:@ - The bank transfers, are what paypal demanded back and the bank agreed.. Otherwise I would have just lost a few hundred quid!
