Battlefield 2142

sometimes my screen goes horziontaly grainy but some of the text stays normal - is this a problem or is it just a grenade or something?
Oh and do I have to play online to rank up to a private or w/e the thing is that says #/40.

I'll start playing online on the weekend, I just wanna get the feel for it first.

Yeah, when your screen does something wierd (it's kind of hard to explain it) then you've been hit by an EMP grenade.

Also, you can only rank up whilst you are playing online on a ranked server. Otherwise, you could just go into single player and set it to easy to get all the guns.. now that wouldn't be fair, would it? ;]

Is that the same with collecting dog tags? Can you only get them online?
Do you have to knife someone to get the tag and how do you pick it up?

Ok you can only collect somebody's dogtags when you're playing online once again. When you knife somebody, you automatically collect the tags (you don't have to pick them up or anything).

One final (hopefully) question. In the video that plays before the game there is a place where there are like silo kind of things with bridges/ladders going across them in a snowy area. What level is that?

I'm not sure, but i'm pretty confident you're talking about a titan map. You can't play that on single player, only on multiplayer.

can you still create a local LAN game and play around on it yourself like in bf2?

What I mean is, going to multiplayer -> Lan -> Create Local and then you can use the multiplayer maps/modes but without players. I did it on bf2 to see what they were like and I just did it on 2142 to see what Titan mode was like and explore a titan (no enemies though)
