How long do you think it will be before we start seeing 100mbps boradband speeds?

Near the bottom of this article on MSN it talks about speeds in the UK and that we would need to change the hardware all around the country or we will have a broadband crunch and end up with dial up speeds agen.

Pretty sure my wireless says 54mbps when it's going properly :S doesn't often happen because the "aerial" I have is actually a paperclip stuck in the back on the PC at the moment. It's currently saying 2mbps and this is the lowest I've seen it in a while

That's not the actual internet speed though. Mine says 100mb/s when it's actually 1mb. DSL connections up/down are never the same either, download speeds are much faster (usually more than double) than upload speeds. I believe fibre allows you to have the same up and down speed.

There are loads of speed tests avaliable on the internet that you can use to find out your true download and upload speeds.

i've got Fibre optic cables down my street..

the americans have poo connections on xbl though

Our steet does not have fibres down it as far as i know... and the Americans seem slow because of their proximity to us.

The common amounts are normally around 10-20:1 for download:upload speed ratio, with the better ISPs offering better ratios.
