Call me old fashioned, but I have to wonder why they keep redesigning something which clearly sells very well and makes them a shedload of money. Once they got the classic's design right they hardly changed from the third generation forwards, they just changed the firmware on it to make it work better. They didn't change the iphone between the first and second versions either.

The ipod in that picture is horrible looking anyway

... That looks dreadful! The screen surely needs to be widescreen for videos and photos? Not portrait like that? The wheel thing isn't even suggesting you hold it one way to watch videos...

It could cause some people who have the current version to buy the new one, just because they like showing off that they have all the latest things.
    Or maybe not.

They redesign or bring new ones out, because Apple know they will get sales. Although this design, I'm not too sure if its exact. But time will tell.

Theres rumors that the touch will get a slight update. But its only a few weeks until its announced to the world.

    Edit: Update from Mac Rumors:

AppleInsider recaps many of the circulating rumors which expect both iPod and Mac notebook updates in September. Some rumors have pegged September 9th as the possible day for at least some of the updates.

The iPod Nano and iPod touch are expected to see revisions, and long standing MacBook and MacBook Pro rumors point to revised case designs (MacBook, MacBook Pro) that adopt an aluminum/tapered look.

Newly reported, however, are expectations that the Apple iMac will see a refresh prior to the holiday season:
Separately, Apple is also planning to refresh its line of 20- and 24-inch iMac seasons ahead of the holidays. People familiar with these plans have described the refresh to consist of 'speed bumps' rather than major internal or external changes. Based on the roadmap presented to AppleInsider, these systems would debut later this fall following the release of the new MacBooks, making their way to market with little fanfare.

An iMac update would be contrary to expectations as the iMac is the most recently updated Mac. The iMac was updated in April of this year and introduced early Montevina-like technology. As a result, there would be only marginal improvements if it were updated to the most recently released Penryn/Montevina chipsets.

Any word of a 60GB Version yet?

I've filled up my fifth generation 30GB but I'd rather get a Touch instead of another classic which will be almost identical other than it can watch iTunes Films, however a 60GB Touch would probably be a stupid price

I don't read every rumors, but if i remember there was one like that, a bigger iPod Touch capacity size. At the moment they offer 8GB, 16 and 32. So if they did a 60? I guess they could. Although i don't know what this "slight" update people are mentioning will be. Cosmetic? or capacity? Time will tell. Although at the moment I have no iPods since I sold my touch for cash. I'm very interested in the new Macbooks and maybe a new iPod? I'm missing mine.
