Apple have software called "iWork" which is basically the Apple version of Microsoft Office. Which you can find more information about here: http://www.apple.com/iwork/

Although, if you really like Microsoft Office then there is "Office:Mac" which is Microsoft's version for Apple Macs.

Open Office is a useless, slow pile of java **** that should never have seen the light of day.

Haha they do that here to. They offer to set your machine up for $240 dollars:rolleyes:. We have Futureshop and BestBuy here, and usually I go to BestBuy because those guys aren't paid on commission, so they're not whining at you to buy something.

I've just tried Open Office now and it ran fine. It's not slow at all. It's probably because it's written in Java and therefore using a vm that they're able to use the same code and make everything feel pretty native on different platforms.

And don't diss Java. Google is working wonders with it with the GWT and the Android SDK.

The built in speakers on the iMac have actually shocked me in quality. I hardly ever use the webcam, but the built in audio is very good. After you get it post in our section and other Mac users can recommend some wicked apps for OS X.

It's as easy to connect to the net as it is in Windows, either plug the cable in or click the wireless icon and connect.

Again, like everyone else has said, go for a custom built.
I went for a custom built and have yet not regretted it. My brother has a MacBook and honestly (imo) they are a rip off. The specs they give you for your money is disgraceful and your only really paying for the brand names. I went with PC because I'm looking for cheap parts which do the job. I render a lot of HD video so I got a nice quad core for 1/4 of the price it would be in a Mac. I honestly do not see the appeal of a Mac as it does exactly the same as a Windows PC. I personally think the Windows PC does more.
~As for video editing software there is After FX for Mac and I THINK there is a Sony Vegas version for Mac.
I was also clueless at building but it's so easy with some instructions.
