I don't really think it's "disgusting" that they have raised rates - obviously as a company they need to make money and if they see a potential opportunity, they're gonna go for it.
We've stayed at a lot of the Marriott hotels in Florida, Fairfield Inn, Renaissance, Courtyard, ExecuStay and also the regular Marriott hotels. Fairfield is considered to be at the cheaper end of the market yet we have found them to be the best equipped (fridge, coffee, ice, free wifi, etc). However if you were to pay top notch for a top Marriott hotel, you'd be expected to pay extra for the fridge, wifi, coffee machine.
In that case, I don't think it's fair to group all Marriott hotels under one roof as they are all totally different.
And on Jord's point about their staff being a "family", I recently read a book by Lee Cockerell called "The Great Leader Strategies" - he was the one who first started the staff interaction at Marriott hotels and I must admit, from reading his book it does seem like a very good company to work for. From Marriott, he moved on to work at Disney which is also ranked one of the top in the best places to work.

Probably like his dad's grandad's brother's, sons, wifes husband lol
