I can imagine something like that happening to me. So was the difference in attention you got significant when you switched back to the 3GS? I suppose if you had a previous model all you have to say is "yh got it off ebay for £90, it freezes a lot", then in their eyes you aren't actually showing off anymore if that makes sense? That would make me feel more comfortable to have it out anyway.

Cheers, it's things like this that make me so paranoid about getting called a showoff. There's nothing worse than getting called a showoff.

I always had the 3gs, I can expect you will be or already have going through a phrase where people will keep demanding to have a look. Dont let them, its your phone. Just because it an apple product doesn't mean they can have a look. Tell them to piss off or to be nice, tell them to visit their local apple store.

lol that's the route to popularity i'm sure. it's just a phone, let people have a look. you should get a case or insurance if you've issues with letting people take a peek.

To be fair I think some iPhone users bring it on themselves, they constantly have their phone out, and often hold it in special ways just so people can see it's an iPhone or carry on about it constantly. I'm not saying 'Apple' does this but some iPhone users do and frankly if these people get harassed or mugged I couldn't care less. If you don't have your phone out every minute and cup it close to you, it'll just look like any other touch-screen phone to everyone else and you won't be bothered about it.

The iPhone is also not delicate, Apple products always have a fair amount of resistance particularly with cases. Whenever I've dropped HTCs, Nokias etc they fall to pieces or break up sometimes, iPhones don't do this (with the exception of the iPhone 4).

If you're not a show-off why are you worried about the iPhone 4s recent bad publicity and reputation?

Plus I do not believe this really seeing as most people have used or seen iPhones by now, there really isn't a buzz around them anymore. As an original iPhone user, surely you would know there was a much bigger fuss with them 3 years ago when they were very rare and miles ahead of other mobiles.

If I am totally honest the reason why I never had any problems before was because my social life was almost non existent lol. Now that I am going out much more and hanging out with loads of new people I am starting to realise that having such an expensive piece of kit with you attracts too much unwanted attention. I'd just love to be able to have a phone that I can go on anywhere without fear of people attempting to mug me (lol) or getting accused of being a showoff for using it in front of everyone.

Has anyone ever had a W950i or resistive touch screen phone? My screen isn't responding to my touches (nail or stylus), I haven't got a clue what to do. It's normally just a case of doing a hard reboot or hooking it up to itunes and resetting it with my iphone.

Because you're coming off as showing off. You seem to be more excited to tell people what phone you have than the securities of modern day living in rough areas, and the effect having a smartphone has on you as a target for robbery. So far you've been focusing on the iPhone, than any expensive devices in general or the chances of being robbed, only caring about yourself and the iPhone. Infact, you've not really given anyone a chance to discuss this

Looking at the original post, you're delighting in the fact you're getting attention, rather than asking if anyone else notices the insecurities of owning a smartphone i.e. creating a discussion. I can see why people are calling you a show off, but I agree that expensive devices (not just the iPhone) get alot of attention. The main difference is that the iPhone gets extra attention for little to no rational reason with the price of used ones on ebay going for quite alot.

I can understand where you are coming from. I guess it was just more of a rant. It just annoys me that I have to live such a "toned down" life if thats what you could call it. I'm not saying I'm rich or anything but certainly come from a more well of family than 99% of the people I hang around with. It's like even when I got something as little as new school shoes everyone just automatically assumed they were fake, obviously I never take them on. I guess it's hard for people to emphasise with me as not many people are in similar positions to me, just to make you realise how bad it actually is, when my dad picked me up from school the next day I got asked if he was a drug dealer... I suppose it's not really to bad, it's not rough as in people getting stabbed and such all the time, more just that they come from poorer backgrounds backgrounds. I don't mean to come across as self centred, I would really like to hear if anyone else has similar problems with their smart phone like a few that have already posted in the thread.
