That's where you're wrong. It really doesn't cost much to do a run of mass produced CD's.

There are plenty of basic recording studios with limited features that are just as good as the bigger ones. As long as they have good recording equipment and can perform a decent mixdown on the tracks then everything is fine.

Exactly, money doesn't make a record studio, experience does.

Oh yeah sorry. I forgot the top artists go to more expensive places just to look cool.

They go to them because they can afford them.

But new bands aren't going to be able to afford the best of everything. But as mentioned its not the equipment but how its used, who uses it etc.

The equipment plays a major part. It doesn't take a genius to know that..

Look at a real Fender Stratocaster, or a Squire Strat. What sounds better?

Look at a £800 microphone to a £50 microphone. Things don't cost more just because they feel like charging more.

But some albums are made cheaper than others. It's like a film, there have been really cheap films made with cheap equipment and they have made more than the expensive ones.

If they have enough money for expensive equipment and production they'll have enough for expensive advertising, and let's face it advertising is the deciding factor on popularity

I always download illegally, itunes quality makes me want to cry sometimes, I always get .FLACs if I can, CD or preferably Vinyl rips. If itunes sold better quality audio I'd entertain the thought of buying it from them but right now I can get much higher quality for free by torrenting so that's what I do.
