China won't back North Korea if a war breaks out. China relies too much on the exports to the West to fuel its economy, so wouldn't do anything to jeopardise that.
The US would preferably not want to help South Korea if they can help it because they are already fighting a war on two fronts (Afghanistan and Iraq). Sure they have the man power and equipment but how can they realistically fight 3 wars at the same time and keep their people happy.

Personally I believe South Korea should stop taking these acts of aggression and fight back. Their army may be small in size than the North Korean army but they have technological advantage and support of most of the countries around the world.

Kano has hit the nail on the head.

China and the USA cannot afford a dance off because they have dependancies on eachother. That's why China's taken such a questionable stance here. They're close enough to North Korea to feel their threat, but they're too buddy buddy with the USA to jeopardize relationships.

Another thing to add to your second point is that North Korea still have very old equipment, you may have been getting at that but I'm thinking more guns wise than war machines, tanks etc.

Another thing to consider is South Koreas economy vs North Koreas, can NKorea really afford to pay for all the shells/ammunition/jet fuel without making its economy even worse.

I think that this south korean/american navy drill shouldn't go ahead. Is it worth civilians possibly dying just to not go ahead with a drill?

These drills always happen, If North Korea want to cry like a baby because USA and South Korea are working together than go ahead. The drills are hardly a threat to North Korea, but if they carry on like they are doing and firing shells and what not to the South than war may happen.

Korean War II here we come. Lol.

Love the way Kim Kong Il realises he's gunna die so he decides to try and create war?

I also saw someone posted something about an uprising in his own party? Thank god if it's true - none of that family can run a country for ****.
