Another year has passed where people jump on the bandwagon and get overly excited over a cruel, disgusting, inhumane sport. I didn't used to mind it, but after seeing the horses die, and after seeing them being whipped year on year, I just don't think it's justified when people get so hyped up over it. Yes, people think it's amazing because money is involved, but you're doing it at the expense of lives and that's just wrong. Shameful.

I dislike horse racing in general. Horses like running but not in a race with a human upon their backs whipping them. Horses are raced at the tender age of 2 onwards which means they are not mature and there bones are not fully strong and developed.
They go through speed tests at 2 years old all to be bought to compete in the proper races. Some of them during that time, break down due to being pushed too fast, too far, too soon. Some of the speed tests see them go faster then they ever will in their racing career. (If they survive that far) Also if horses love racing so much, why have a whip? Surely if these horses DO love to run, they can do so without a whip.

There was a piece on before the race began about According To Pete and his owners were saying "we don't mind if he doesn't win, obviously it would be nice but the most important thing is that he comes home safe because we love him so much" or words to that effect. Must be horrible for them.

They love their horse but they're willing to inflict pain through whipping and push him to his absolute limits until he's staring death in the face. If they didn't mind about winning then they wouldn't do it - they have nobody but themselves to blame for his death.

    My God you're boring.

Do you eat meat? Right then. Don't complain about a few horses being killed.

    Ignorance.

All I'm going to say is, the whip doesn't hurt the horses, it's basically just to gain their attention. Stop jumping on the bandwagon of calling it cruel or inhumane, if they hated it so much they have all the time in the world to refuse to run or act up.

the whip doesn't even hit the horses the majority of the time, it hits the riders boot and as far as i'm aware they're only allowed to hit the horse a certain amount of times now anyway aren't they?

dunno bout people jumping on the bandwagon for the grand national, more like people jumping on the animal welfare bandwagon when they fail to mention horse cruelty during the rest of the racing calendar.
