I decided to do it first, ask questions later.
I have no idea why they have any use for our numbers other than added security, but that's a feature that probably won't even be implemented for a very long time, if ever.

they said they wont store the phone numbers so doesnt that mean even if there was a security breach, they wont get the phone numbers cos they aint stored.......???????
