The HDD iPods are easily damage, but the flash based ones are pretty robust. My nano is great and hasn't let me down once. I'm impressed with this one.
i dropped it today
twice.
once on concrete, once on just the normal slidy floor you get in schools, lino type stuff.
its started to freeze on me now
iPod Nano Black 2GB G1 - Randomly died, but it had a scratched screen anyway. Went to Apple Store and they replaced it.
iPod Nano Black 2GB G1 Number 2 - Survived, a bit scratched though.
iPod Video Black 30GB 5.5G - It's doing well so far, if I break it I will literally die.

White iPod nano 4GB 1G - Had it for 1 & a half years, dropped it about 3 times and the only problems I have had with it are fingerprints on the metal and scratches on the metal, which are only visible if you tilt it into a certain position in the light.
