However, the fact is what he did was dreadful, and for me that means he was bad, really bad.

I'm not surprised that this is an unpopular opinion, because it is just outright incorrect as a fact.

Actually he was the best leader Germany had since their Chancellor Bruning. Other than his racial policies, he was actually very good at solving problems. (eg; economic problems Germany had due to the great depression were solved far quicker than most other countries - unemployment fell from 3 million to under 100,000), he restored the country's power (okay - he took it WAY too far) by strengthening the army etc. And generally, Nazi Germany, (ignoring the racial cleansing) was a very prosperous time in German history.
