I LOVE! Tom's write up of events! So taalented.
I LOVE! Tom's write up of events! So taalented.
Ok so I got too excited and forgot to write up the quarters, so you get two lots in one today even though it's actually still fewer games. ANYWAY.
Quarter Finals
Having taken out France in a shock penalty victory, Shannon's Switzerland took The-Dream07's Spain all the way to penalties too after a gruelling 1-1 battle. Despite an early miss from Busquets, the Spanish emerged victorious 3-1 on pens, and on into the semi finals!
The fight to see who would take on Spain was between welshcake's Belgium and the Italians under Chipmunks. Leonardo Spinazzola (possibly the player of the tournament) suffered a horrific injury near the end as he ruptured his Achilles tendon, but Italy still took victory: 2-1 the final score.
Two of the tournament's underdog stories met next, tbl's Czech Republic up against LUCPIX's Danes. A lovely goal from Patrik Schick had the Czechs hoping, but it was too late as the 2 earlier Danish goals were enough in the end. Another 2-1, and Denmark into the semis.
Ukraine under RichBoiSam started badly, letting in a 4th minute goal to Chloelou's Englishmen. The second half started much the same with another English goal, and two more in quick succession sealed the deal, a mammoth 4-0 victory for England to get the country believing.
Semi Finals
Chipmunks' Italy were weakened by the loss of Spinazzola against The-Dream07's Spain, who controlled most of the game with 908 passes and 71% of possession, but were unable to convert it into goals. Just one apiece at the end meant extra time and yet more penalties, and this time the Spaniards were wholly unable to take advantage from the spot. 4-2 on penalties sends Italy into their 4th European final - could they win it again for the first time since 1968?
England under Chloelou played host at Wembley to LUCPIX's brave and sturdy Denmark team, who went ahead from a beautiful Damsgaard free kick. The Danes scored again soon after, but this time in their own net to draw the game level. By 90 minutes no more goals had been scored, but in extra time a clumsy challenge in the box gave England a penalty. SAVED by a fantastic Schmeichel, but the followup was all good and England head to their first ever European final from a 2-1 victory. Is it coming home?
Unfortunately we say goodbye to yet more of you as only two now remain! Thank you for playing:
