No it's not. People haven't ripped his layouts, they've just took somethings from it and tried to recreate it. Where would the web be if people never recreated what they saw? Or, where would the world be?

He's created a good bunch of sites that have been successful, what have you made that's been a success?

You wont get far with social skills if you decide to adopt that attitude to others. You should make up and be friends. He's a really good designer and you could learn a bit from him if you're new to it.
