If people wanted to go to an event, they'd check it.
As an EO I'd like to point out that we have been told to post in the announcements section before and after our event.
I guess this is so that more people can see the thread and will then know about the event, therefore promoting it.
The announcement is to let everyone know the event is happening, so if it was posted in the events forum then not as many people would see it/ read it anyway.
Also, you said if people wanted to go to an event, they'd check it, but surely you don't have to read the announcement anyway if you don't want to. I can understand that sometimes it goes over important threads, but we don't know that until it's been posted and, like someone else said, the important threads can always be bumped.

There's no point promoting an event after it has happened though. Creating a new thread saying it was a 'success' is pretty pointless, cos you're not exactly going to post if it went horribly wrong.

I think the problem here is that members want to be aware of what they consider is important. How do you define what's important? Anything that affects the forum or site I imagine is of great importance to the majority of members. Personally I would much prefer to see a Habbox News forum, that covers the forum and the site only, and let the events, name changes, staff recruitments (possibly) stay in announcements.

Bumping surely is something that should be discouraged if it's just to get it noticed, and shouldn't be encouraged for that reason alone

    Just an idea

It's the quality of your posts that count, not the quantity!

Dignity does not consist in possessing honours, but in deserving them.

Fully agreed. Usually it shows up on the 'new posts' search option as well.

Which after 100 posts a minute, will be removed from the top of the new posts page If people wanted to see an announcement within a minute of it being posted, the chances of it sitting at the top of the posts in the announcement forum is very likely

I totaly agree with ollie. I don't bother to check announcements if i see the thread is a event, name change. If it's an update or something important then i do read.

I second this but I do not think that name changes for a DJ or News Reporter really need to be stated there. Maybe they management should introduce a staff name change forum for members to see if a member of staff has changed his/her name.

Indeed i agree with smiddy the Events forum needs to be used more, specially when it was bloody created and not used.
