No offence to Scottish, but if they were involved, no i would not support them. This is because all they just want independence, thats fine. But if they were in the Team GB football team, they would only do it because they would have a chance of winning it with them, on themselves they would not beable to. On a Lee Evans DVD he says somthing funny about Scotland and independence somthing about them having there own money, thats completly off topic i know but its so funny, youtube it!
    Thought i would visit..

Most of it comes from the Olympic Committee, Sponsorship, TV & Radio rights, advertising etc etc. Some will be lottery funded. I cannot see anywhere any mention of our taxes being increased for this purpose. Perhaps you will be able to enlighten me here. Also as this is a thread about the GB football team - they are using stadia UK wide so I doubt Anfield would not be included in that as well as the Millenium Stadium

It will be a great event and I am really looking forward to it.
Taxes will be increased/diverted to fund this Olympic Games of course they will, this country does not have twelve billion plus laying around in a bank somewhere. The money goes to broadcasters, such as the BBC who we already fund and ITV which is a private company along with others. Therefore we will not be gaining that money back. You cannot possibly tell me that paying such an amount for a tacky sporting event when the country is in spiralling debt and people are being denied life-prolonging drugs that spending twelve billion and more is justifiable.

If it interests billions of people around the globe, then let them billions of people fund it.

If we can turn on the television to watch the games then thats great, just let it be held somewhere else and let another country pay for the games rather than hitting the taxpayer yet again in this country, espeically when most people actually couldn't care about the Olympics.

Congratulations to Rosie, however she hasn't really stuck up for you as you refused to address my issues and refused to defend your side of the discussion.

You're just like a politician, always making a mockery of everything.

And I suppose you support all these MPs claiming expenses off us, yes?

The vast majority of Politicians enjoy wasting public money on schemes like the Olympics games, especially on the Labour side. The expenses scandel, I think they should be taken to court and face the same consquences normal citzens face if we 'forget' to tell the Inland revenue we are not disabled and so forth.

That has nothing to do with the Olympics anyway and you seem determined to keep diverting me.

Olympics is such a waste of money, rite? well £40M x 365 days = £14.6BN a year, just be in ''Europe'' - I think you argument is completely irrelevant really, when it will benefit our youth greatly, but you being the conservative that you are, fails to see this.

No because only England are in the team and Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland aren't.

The Olympics are a waste of money indeed and so is the European Union, that is exactly why I support UKIP firstly and support the Conservative Party secondly. As I have stated before, how will it benefit our youth, what would benefit our youth is building more public pools/making entry to public pools free or even improving existing sporting facilities, all of this would greatly benefit our youths sporting rather than a ugly stadium built in East London for profesional atheletes, at the cost of the taypayer.

You say; "how will it benefit out youth?" -

there's one thing money CANNOT buy, and that, my friend, is inspiration, whether you like it or not, The Olympics will be worth all the money that is being spent on it. It's going to leave a legacy for the youth of this country, but again you fail to see that, you really should join the Conservative party when you can, their tight, and don't like to spend money, god knows what this country would be like in this current economic climate would be if the Conservatives were in charge.

Oh your so right, everyone under 18 in this country i'm sure will be running around in their wetsuit and playing football because of the Olympics - you either like sport or you don't.

Indeed, maybe if we had had a 'tight' Conservative Government in power we would have money now to deal with the current economic climate rather than going deeper and deeper into debt.

Sorry I think you are completely out of touch - against sweeping statements
saying that the people of Britain do not support the games and saying that it will cost the taxpayer 12 billion. What on earth is tacky about an Olympic Games? It is a chance for the world to get together and celebrate sport. It is a spectacular event IMO. You are entitled to your opinions, of course, but it seems you are trying to turn every thread on the forum possible into a party political broadcast. The bill also had all main party support.

The facts are these - there is going to be an olympics in 2012 and there is going to be a GB football team which is what we are trying to discuss in this thread.
