They're not unique at all. They'd like to think they are. The majority of teenagers I see walking down the street fall into those two groups. There's nothing unique about them, they're like sheep. The same goes for those "alternative" people. They're all the same. The only truly "unique" and "alternative" people are those who refuse to comform and not let themselves fall into social groups, because most people these days so.

i could be loads.
i'm your sterotypical lesbian, the short hair and stuff. then i get called a chav most days simply cos i wear trackies cos they're comfy, but some days i wear skinny jeans but that hardly makes me emo.
so i'm just emma thanksss.
all i care about is laura prepon & cats.
I'd argue against that seeing as how so many people actively try not to be classified at all, which is in my opinion worse than wanting to be part of a social group. If you feel so insecure in who yourself is that you have to try proving how different and unique you are, that just says to me that there's something wrong.
I'm gonna use Danzilla as my example here because he's the only one I can remember what he said. He claimed that despite liking all the scene stuff he isn't scene, and I assume that's because he believes that he dresses that way just because he likes it. Fair enough. What I would say though is that his "self" is at this moment in time part of the scene crowd, and there shouldn't be a need for anyone to feel like they have to hide the fact that they fit into a subculture. The "be yourself" argument is hideously flawed in that a majority of humans have an innate need to feel included in some way, and subcultures provide for that just by representing yourself as an image, and so yeah his self is scene, someone elses self might be chav or prep or (god save their souls) goth. I respect chavs more than most others to be honest, because at least they don't try to hide what they are whilst everyone else tries as hard as possible not to be typified.
I honestly wouldn't know how to stereotype myself. I dress what I consider casually - usually jeans / combats, tshirt and a hoodie / cardigan and a pair of converse. I like 'geeky' things such as the latest gadgets and that. I like the 'hip hop' culture. I also like the 'indie' culture.

i totally agree with tom, it's just a shame that 85% of chavs are obnoxious idiotsI'd argue against that seeing as how so many people actively try not to be classified at all, which is in my opinion worse than wanting to be part of a social group. hmm, I'd probally stereo type myself as scene, but emo is completly different to scene tbh.
