I think the star idea is good. But maybe with ranks from smiddy's post, like
Iron
Bronze
Steel
Crystal
Silver
Ruby
Gold
Platinum
Diamond

and if you let people get more features when they got to a certain stage, features like html usertitles and subforums, wouldnt that defeat the object of having the VIP system? because it wouldnt be worth buying VIP if you can get all the features free..

Yeah, I think all the anniversary's is too many, I like the idea of just using the metal's from them.
So it'd go something like..

0 - 499 posts - Iron
500 - 999 posts - Bronze
1,000 - 1,999 posts - Steel
2,000 - 3,499 posts - Crystal
3,500 - 5,499 posts - Silver
5,500 - 7,999 posts - Ruby
8,000 - 10,999 posts - Gold
11,000 - 14,499 posts - Platinum
15,000+ - Diamond.

100 is a paper anniversary
200 is a cotton anniversary
300 is a leather anniversary
400 is a linen anniversary
500 is a wood anniversary
600 is an iron anniversary
700 is a wool anniversary
800 is a bronze anniversary
900 is a copper anniversary
1000 is a tin anniversary
1100 is a steel anniversary
1200 is a silk anniversary
1300 is a lace anniversary

Yes we want to use your star system but not to replace repuation. We want to add a number of stars to each rank, so that for each rank you have a number of stars you have to get before you switch to the next rank.

well if you can't do what I suggested because it's not possible then I suggest a simple generalising memberranks that we have now.
I'm also a little confused.. New members will be called "paper" members?
