The Sex Pistols WERE the first punk band in england. And by punk, I do not mean rock, I mean punk. Punk is rebellious ("COME BACK HERE, YOU LITTLE PUNK!"), and the sex pistols were the first totally rebellious band in the UK. They couldn't play instruments very well, they couldn't sing very well, however their music still sent out a message.
A band like the Ramones are classed as "punk" but are not technically. They didn't sing about the problems with the world, they were just different.

For example: in the sex pistol's era, it was un-heard of to have short hair, and because of this, the sex pistols all had short hair. They were unique, as they were not in it for the publicity.

So, if you think the Sex Pistols weren't the first punk band in the UK, WHO WAS? No one.

oh and shut up, look into what punk is and youll soon realise how lame the sex pistols are, the ramones are pretty lame too, what's so rebellious about being on major labels and fuelling the corporations you're supposed to hate whilst you make money for them off a fad. duh.
