whilst accusing me of ignorance you have infact blissfully contradicted yourself, claiming that im a microsoft fanboy, when in fact i have owned 3 apple products myself.So you're just going to totally claim ignorance to the fact that it has a faster processor higher screen rez, re-written applications including official "ibooking" and a heck of a lot better mail and itunes. I'm not saying it's going to be the best tablet ever but I am not silly enough to go ranting about how bad it's going to be without having tried it. Don't be the typical msfanboy!!!1111
and yes, while it does have a faster processor as you claim, that is to be expected with a bigger product, its obvious. bigger things would need faster components and internal hardware to make it work better. so yes, in some sense, it is just a bigger ipod.
Hardly. I expect the next iteration of the iPhone/iTouch to have a 1GHz processor. The processor increases every year in them and the 1GHz processor is the next natural step (Currently 833 MHz underclocked to 600MHz), it just so happens that the iPad is the first Apple Mobile device out this year which is why it's the first one with 1GHz.
Indeed but I suspect few applications will take advantage of it. As an App developer I certainly won't be. Why would I develop an application for the High res iPad which can't run on iPhones and iTouches which have a much larger support base when I could just develop it for the iPhone and iTouch and upscale it to that. If you want to design a high res application you will have to redo all of the graphics (Unless it's openGL which most aren't).
The iBookStore is ok at best. The point is it's difficult to read books on screens like the iPad rather than traditional eBook readers because they work in a totally different way. Reading a book on the iPad is the same as reading one on a PC. Anyway considering the kindle and such are much cheaper than the iPad I'm not going to shell out £400 for an iPad am I? Oh and plus I don't think I've ever travelled and thought wow a book is too big to take with me so I'll take an even bigger device, the iPad. The only use it's going to have Book wise is for people who travel for months without going home and so need a lot of books with them, in which case the kindle is better.
Mail: If anything I'd say it's better on the iTouch and iPhone, it's a lot simpler with options to go advanced. I bought an iTouch when they first came out and I've use the mail app daily, have I ever needed any more options? No. As it is you get a list of the emails in your inbox and you can read them and open attachments and even search if you want to. That's all I'd ever use on my computer and thats all I'd ever use on my iTouch.
iTunes: It looks cool on the iPad but simply isn't needed. The iPhone version once again is much simpler and easy to use. You search for what you want in the basic interface, find it, test it and download it.
No but you're the one claiming that mail and itunes are a "heck of a lot better" without trying it. He's simply judging it on it's concept which is flawed. It's you thats making more specific judgements without trying it.
Oh ok, so if you don't like one apple product you are an MS Fanboy? I don't like it and I'm writing this message on a MacBook with a pile of Objective-C books next to it along with my iPod Touch. Am I an MS Fanboy?
No, it's not just a bigger ipod, it's a new product. I'm finding it exceedingly funny that you continue to say all it is, is a bigger iPod, when it even required a new SDK to develop on.whilst accusing me of ignorance you have infact blissfully contradicted yourself, claiming that im a microsoft fanboy, when in fact i have owned 3 apple products myself.

@FlyDuo ditch objc, learn java.

I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
No it doesn't. It runs on the iPhone SDK the same as the iTouch and iPhone. It just requires you to update to 3.2 to support the larger screen size.
Try running Java on the iPhone, see how far you get. I know several other languages so I have no need to learn Java.

Advertised and even reviewed as a large iPod Touch. They may as well call it the iPod Touch XL and actually make a real tablet device. Steve Jobs, the idiot that he is, did a terrible job announcing it. He made references to the NetBook market and, like a fool, suggested it was to "bridge the gap" between the iPhone/iPod Touch and the MacBook, which it doesn't, as it lacks any true qualities of a MacBook or a device with a full working OS.
Think of it like this:
There is a review/look over the product on the BBC Website, and the main from Apple talking about it sounds so unconvinced by the product.There a steep valley with two islands either side. One island is Hand Held Island, and the other is OS X Island. The iPod Touch XL is sitting in the city of Hand Held Island, having tea and drawfing over the iPhone and iPod Touch.
It such an underwhelmed product, and relies too much on other devices. If it was to sit in and bridge the gap between the Touch and the MacBook, it would be (mostly) independent. If you have a photographer and property developer take photos of homes to show to you, he may as well show you on the camera than look like a right boob who has to get out his MacBook/Laptop just to show you the pictures, seeing as you can't hook the darn thing up to the camera to transfer the pictures. It's pretty lame and laughable, really. The HP Tablet at least has USB connectivity, and will run on a lo-fi version of Windows 7, not Windows Mobile.
