It's actually debatable whether you can or can't. In some of my articles they are in the brackets and some are outside. But, They sometimes get edited by senior news members..and I think they place them inside?

Or that might just be for quotes... I have no idea.

Ok , I looked on Google. If the word/s inside the bracket are a complete sentence e.g. (That dog is fat).Then it goes outside the bracket, but if it is not complete e.g. That dog is fat (owner needs to be more careful.) Then it goes inside.

So yes, you proved me wrong. -.-
