Sky have been trying to buy the TV rights from us for a long time, but we won’t because they are not free-to-air broadcasters. With their viewing figures it would be almost impossible for teams to find sponsors. That would be suicidal.” - Bernie Ecclestone, May 2011.

i think it's disgusting. my grandad loves f1, he watches every single race, has all little replica cars, he's loved it since he was a little boy. so 70 years of dedication to a sport and now he won't be able to enjoy it because he can't afford sky? it's a sham.

    I think its terrible!

The audience figures will drop, we will have adverts back again... On the plus side Bernie gets more money :/

Keep it on the bbc for me!

On the one and only plus side... no adverts on sky sports!

I honestly can't wait to see how this pans out. The teams won't be happy.
    One for the road.

The teams may just go with it as there more money involved.

I've got Sky as in our household we are always watching the football and the cricket. So I'm not really that bothered. I really do like the BBC's coverage and its the best we've ever seen in the UK but I'm sure Sky will innovate and do even more features and give viewers more information so to speak (like they have done with the Cricket)

Latest news is that both BBC/Sky will be sharing resources, facilities and even commentators. The only difference really is that BBC/Sky will have different presentation staff. JH will be staying at BBC though as he's one of their contracted presenters (not just for F1)

I'm really hoping that Sky can get some good pundits if not EJ and DC.

I'm interested to see how this will work in conjunction with the football season. Given that Sky Sports usually show Premier League matches at 12:45pm on Saturday, 1:30pm and 4:00pm on Sunday. Apart from in the Summer I imagine that it'll probably be on SS2 if not 3 and 4. Not sure how that's going to be lucrative for Sky.

I agree with you regarding the lucrativeness of the deal. Just by looking at the 'Save BBC F1' pages and message boards not many people seem that interested in buying Sky Sports but I am sure that will change.

They must be able to make space for it - as they have promised to show practice, qualifying and the race. They have the rights for it and they've paid a lot so I am pretty sure they will just get rid of Speedway and the little things like WWE. Channel number isn't a real problem.

Great race, very well done to Jenson and McLaren. Shame about Lewis but hey ho!
