why is it fair that you have a go saying that horse racing is cruel (even though the horses enjoy it) but then sit there eating a chicken that's been bred so all that it knows is artificial calories and pain and has been killed inhumanely?

race horses probably have a far better life style then a normal, domestic horse. so whoever said 'he was pushed until he was staring death in the face'; erm no, he most likely had a great life. it just happened that he fell and must have broken something so the kindest thing to do was kill him before he began to feel the pain.
Jockeys are only allowed to hit the horses something like 5 times throughout the race, most of the flapping is to create the sound of the whip to encourage the horses to go forward. if you look, it's usually used before a jump or towards the end of the race to try to keep the horses going.
it is sad that two of them died, and how horses die all the time in races and other events but at the end of the day every sport comes with a risk.
although i don't think it's the course that's the problem; it's the number of horses which race. if you notice, at the start when it's almost like a stampede a lot more of the horses fall.
Jockeys are not actually allowed to whip their horses at all, if they do then they are disqualified from the race.

OH AND JUST TO MENTION MONEY.
the chicken that you just ate was bred and raised purely for profit; race horses are not bred entirely for profit.

Race Horses are often not even profitable. The majority of horse race owners do it because they love horses and they love the racing and the atmosphere. Yes, you get £975,000 if your horse wins the grand national, but think about all the money spent on the horse.

I swear they are? there was a close up slow-motion of the jockey on the grey horse (that i think won?) hitting the horse on the shoulder...

you are allowed to whip the horse a certain amount of times. but like i said previously it's very rarely actually HITTING the horse, it's usually the riders boots or the saddle. the sound/action is the stimulant to the horse rather than the pain.

exactly. I don't think all of these people saying how badly the horses are treated realise how much effort and time goes into training and horse, let alone the expenses.
no one would go to that much effort for something that they didn't love.

Horse races are actually the best kept animals. They have fortunes spent on their grooming, they have round the clock vets etc.

They are better kept than many humans!
