    Default A few questions... :)

    Hey there,

You may remember me posting about my laptop "dying" as such (BIOS error)

So at the moment I have to use my desktop, however I have a few questions about both...

    Desktop:

RAM - I would like to upgrade the RAM in this PC however I don't know what type it requires, when I run the Crucial scanner I get this:

    System Manufacturer: Tiny Computers
    System Model: P4M266-8233
Motherboard Manufacturer: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD
    Motherboard Model: P4M266-8233

    • Maximum Memory Capacity: 1572864 MB
    • Currently Installed Memory: 256 MB
    • Available Memory Slots: 2
    • Number of Banks: 3
    • Dual Channel Support: N.A.
    • CPU Manufacturer: GenuineIntel
    • CPU Family: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40GHz Model 3, Stepping 3
    • CPU Speed: 2412 MHz
    • 256 MB
    • DDR PC2700
What type of memory am I looking for here?

HDD - I also would like to purchase another HDD for the PC as I only have an 80GB at the moment. I know the current HDD is IDE, I was thinking about purchasing this HDD:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128712

Will it work? Will I need to purchase a cable etc?

    Laptop :

As the laptop is currently incapacitated, I would like to be able to get information from the HDD. I have already had the drive out of the laptop, however is there a way I can essentially plug this into my PC and take/delete information on it?

Thanks, I apologise if this post is a little hard to understand!

Judging by DDR PC2700, you would need DDR RAM which would be sticks like this (if you want 1GB sticks):

    http://www.ebuyer.com/cat/Memory---D...t/DDR-3200-1GB

I'm not entirely sure about the HDD (sorry if I am annoying you), but all I know is that there are IDE, ATA, SATA cards. That one you posted is an ATA, so you may need a cable. I think you can buy converters like this, http://sewelldirect.com/SerialATAtoIDEConverter.asp, but take someone elses word on it aswell

EDIT: The main point of my first post is about the laptop. I REALLY need to recover this data! Any ideas?

No ATA, its either IDE or SATA. If its IDE I HIGHLY recommend one of these:

    http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/...LAID=123615686

It will let you put your Laptop Hard drive into it and use it through USB, so long as the HDD is IDE. If its SATA then im sure there are SATA enclosures like this one.

Im not sure but IDE and SATA may be different for laptop drives and so those converters posted above may be useless.
