German Federal Election 2021

Germans have gone to the polls to replace outgoing Chancellor Merkel, who has governed since 2005

So Germany's Chancellor, Angela Merkel, is stepping down after nearly 16 years in office. As much as I dislike her, that is a pretty impressive term length in office and to put that into perspective, when she became Chancellor Tony Blair was the British PM, George W. Bush was the American President, Prince William had just graduated from University and the Arctic Monkeys were busy recording their debut album.

The SPD (equivalent to the Labour Party) have polled more than the CDU, but that doesn't mean they will get the Chancellorship. Let's see what unfolds.
