What OS are you using and what web browser?

I'm assuming Firefox It has had a few problems in the past And do you have anything like Zone Alarm? Zone Alarm used to conflict with Firefox and completely halt internet browsing traffic, with both IE and Firefox, but usually with Firefox (stopping IE afterwards). Only solution I knew of was uninstalling Zone Alarm, because Windows Firewall and a router/network firewall were all you ever needed.

Opera is crap and the other advice was crap.

Zone Alarm shouldn't do it, I used to use it. Try clearing all of your internet caches etc.

Did when I used it last, I think if you search "Vista ZoneAlarm IE7/Firefox" you may come across some articles about it. At least, when browsers ceased working for me it worked normally after ZoneAlarm was uninstalled, it was annoying at the best of times anyway.

Just depends if you trust Windows Firewall and the firewalls built into wireless and wired routers, but it all depends on connected type.
