Your mate would only get it for £800 if he asked for "Third Party, Fire and Theft" insurance. That will only cover the other people if he has a crash, they won't pay for his car. £1300-£1900 sounds about right for a "comprehensive" quote, where if you have a crash they pay for your car too.

Tesco Car Insurance are good for young people.

Mine was £1500 and the nearest quote I had was £2400.
Try e-carinsurance or enter your details on confused.com where they'll give you quotes from just about everyone. If your car is fairly new you'll probably wanna take full cover out so expect to pay a bit more :p.Hello
