40GB or wait for the 80GB?

Hey,

Well I've got enough cash now for a 40GB PS3, and I already own a PS2. I was planning on getting a 40GB one, but now my Mum says we should wait until the 80GB PS3 comes out (they dont even have any plans to release it at the moment, so it could be 6 months+ before I get one then...:rolleyes just so we can play PS2 games on it.

But this is stupidly pointless, because we already have a PS2, which we can keep, and use when we want to play the old games? The other difference is the smaller hard drive (which I can upgrade if necessary anyway), less USB ports (I've got a USB Hub for that:rolleyes and no card readers(USB card readers do the trick)

So yeah, basically my Mum says to wait 6 months, pay £130 or whatever extra, to play PS2 games on a PS3, when we can get a PS3 literally right now, just get a card reader, and play the PS2 games on the PS2, and it'll be much cheaper.

Sigh.

Whatcha think I should do?

Wait god knows how long, and pay over a £100 more just to play PS2 games

Buy a 40GB and upgrade it for a fraction of the price when necessary and play PS2 games on the PS2

There's no confirmation that the 80GB is coming to the UK so just go with the 40gb.

I hope the 80GB one comes out to the uk. And yea if your ps2 is still in working condition and have the space to keep it up go for the 40gb if ur like me and have a duff ps2 and nowere to have both then yea lol.. only want the ps3 for 2 games aswell..

go for the 40gb and just buy the usb card readers etc... bigger hard drives are dirt cheap now anyway so thats no problem.

Isnt there any 60gb versions left in your area? I dont even use the 4USB slots on my 60gb one and I have only ever used the card readers once to transfer some pictures over from my PSP

Well, if you decide on the 80 GB model, cash in your PS2 as credit twards your new PS3 at a game shop... That should reduce the upgrade cost a bit.

The game backwards compatiblity is glitchy on the 60gb and its supposed to be far worse on the 80gb
