I know some of the current students in my school previously because I was a volunteer tutor at a kid center. Then, I'm just curious what it is to teach this student officially in class. Then, here I am
to be honest. the job i am at now basically fell in my lap. kind of...
last Summer i left my job as a Chef of 12 years to pursue something different. i went to school for Laboratory Tech and wanted to do something in the Laboratory setting, that way it doesn't feel like such a waste of money spent on school. the Restaurant i was working in wasn't changing any, the pay sucked, no benefits, horrible hours etc.
i felt bored and needed a challenge, i needed some change. I told my boss this and he didn't like that very much, which eventually turned into me giving my two weeks notice the following day.
i had no backup plan tho, i didn't have another job lined up, i just knew i didn't want to do this anymore. so after i left i collected my Unemployment benefits for the summer [March - Nov]. making barely enough to live off of and saving zero while i look and go to job interviews for the Laboratory Setting. , i finally had enough and started looking else where because i needed money and needed to get out of the house more then one day a week. a friend of mine told me about a job in a factory on the floor making magnesium car parts. it wasnt something i really wanted to do but it would be something to make money as i look for the Laboratory job i wanted so badly.
after working on the floor for 6 months and proving myself to the management and supervisor team i was asked if i wanted to work in the quality side of things in the Laboratory running tests and data for the customers. it came with a hefty raise. tons more responsibility and hours, but it was a step in the right direction for me. and now i love it! a solid career choice!
