I was wondering if anyone knows if you can add a password to a USB stick? - I'm aware that you can buy encrypted ones however, I was looking for a cheaper option.

Depends how secure you want it..

Veracrypt is probably the most secure way, but you need to install Veracrypt onto the PC you want to access the contents on. It basically encrypts it as a whole new partition, so it acts as a new drive when accessed, and when not being accessed, it can be any file you want it to be... So it can be hidden on your USB as a .txt file for example... However the .txt file will display the size you chose for your partition.. For example if you want your secure partition to be 200MB, then your .txt file will be 200MB. But no one will be able to access it without typing in a password.

Alternatively you can do what you're asking using Bitlocker, Install that and tick the box to encrypt with a password, then whenever you try to access it, it'll prompt you for a password.

In both cases, make sure you remember the password because if you forget it, you ain't getting it back.

There's another shooting today, and this one was bad
I'm glad that we all hope and pray, but it takes more than that
We've been trying, we've been crying
Hoping that they will do more than keep lying
I need to believe that people can change
Or else this life has all been in vain
What's the point of fighting if we're fighting for a lie?

    BitLocker is the obvious choice

When you encrypt it you'll also save a recovery key so if you forget the password made sure you've safely stored the recovery key.

I heard of Rohos Mini Drive where you can encrypt your USB drive. You might wanna try that.
