Default Election Day 2021 (8th May)

    Election Day 2021

Multiple elections are taking place on the 8th May across Britain with the exception of Northern Ireland

    - English local elections
    - Police and Crime Commissioner elections in England and Wales
    - Scottish parliament elections
    - Welsh parliament elections
    - London assembly elections

Will post anything interesting that comes up, but here is a snapshot of the latest national polling.

Personally I am not voting despite being a Tory member as I feel the Conservatives need to be punished for their lockdown and overreaction to Coronavirus.

Another important election taking place on this day is the Hartlepool by-election to elect a new MP for the town. Now, Hartlepool has been solidly Labour since 1959 and could be considered to be a part of the "Red Wall" - in the last General Election in 2019, Labour came through the middle after the Brexit Party got a huge vote in the town.

The latest poll from the seat suggests the Conservatives could be on course to win the seat, meaning there could be many more northern town seats at risk.

With polls showing the SNP within grasping distance of a majority in Holyrood, the government is planning ahead on how to respond.

Fully support (below) the intention of the government to deny a re-vote that Nicola Sturgeon is demanding. Scotland gave its answer in 2014. Let her hold a mickey mouse referendum like the Catalonians did, have Unionists boycott it and then go and suspend (if need be) the devolved administration in Edinburgh if it cannot follow the law. This country cannot be allowed to be broken apart by a gaggle of losers who won't take No for an answer.

    Did anyone here vote today?

The first results are trickling in... looks like it could be a bloodbath for Labour in the North. Brexit is continuing to realign formerly solid red seats to blue.

The Tories take Hartlepool with the biggest by-election swing *ever* to a government in history.

On council ward seats, we're seeing swings to the Conservatives of 20% to 45%. Incredible.

Meanwhile, here's some maps of the councils so far in that have fallen to the Conservatives.

Some great news, the SNP failed to get a majority in the Scottish Parliament.

Also, this Durham result is jaw dropping. 102 years of Labour dominance is over.

It's what happens when you vote for clowns as your leader
    Ed Miliband.
    Jeremy Corbyn.

I think it is deeper than that given the combined Ukip/Brexit and Tory vote in Hartlepool in 2017 and 2019, really this is Brexit which has hacked away at Labour's weakening ties to its working class base... just as after the 2014 Scottish referendum, Labour were wiped out in their Scottish heartlands. Obviously it isn't to the same extent as an extinction type event (yet), which makes me think had Labour managed to ram a 2nd referendum through parliament in 2019, it probably wouldn't exist as an electoral force anymore.

Obviously not the only factor though. You've got the leadership like you said, you've got a transformed Tory Party, cultural changes, dying tribalism etc.

Labour are not realistic. Free this. Free that. Landlords are evil. Business owners are scum bags. Rich people are thieves.

    Yeah ok....

So Im openly a member of Labour (WN and LGBTQ) and actually actively participate within our local election campaigns. I voted for labour as they are the BEST option locally. We didn't do as well as predicted but I think the Tory Majority was a bit underwhelming as well.

Whatever you vote, at least you went out and voted. I 100% hate people who don't vote then start complaining about politicians 5 months later.
