Nissan announce £1 billion investment in new Sunderland car plant

Investment will create 6,200 jobs as Nissan chief Ashwani Gupta says "Thanks to Brexit, Nissan is moving forwards"

Nissan to invest £1 billion plan this morning, along with its Chinese partner, to build a battery plant to power 100,000 vehicles a year including a new crossover model. The investment will create 6,200 jobs at the Sunderland plant and in British supply chains.

Always good news to see investment of this kind anywhere in Britain, but it is extra sweet to see it happening in Sunderland given the threats the town was subjected to in 2016 over the future of Nissan there which is the economic backbone of the north eastern town - yet the people of Sunderland defied the threats and still voted overwhelmingly for Leave.
