Laurel Hubbard: Transgender weightlifter is set to compete in women's event at Tokyo Olympics - but does she have unfair advantage?

Sky News looks at the life and career of the 43-year-old New Zealander whose involvement in women's weightlifting has sparked fierce debate about fairness in female sport.

    Look at that photo.

We're being invited to pretend that this man is a woman when our eyes tell us he is a man.

What a tragedy for women's sports.

"Does she have unfair advantage?" Well well well, Sky News, that probably was what many people have said about our pocket Hercules Naim Süleymanoğlu and, goddamn it, look at what that man had been able to do. So, at this point, I see that the potential grows up into psychological and motivational attributes that very little we can see with our eyes

I say that the reason why it is often that some transwomen change their appearance in order to be more conventionally faithful to the gender they are transitioning to is because most of the people do not comprehend that it mostly is how one feels about themselves and the social compatibility from their modus operandi other than "just" what they see in the mirror, then just because one trans(wo)man hasn't visually separated from their OG gender's attributes, or even operated their reproductive organs or anything, doesn't mean that they are an identity fraud and/or less likely to be taken seriously, etc

By that same logic, should I be able to compete in the Paralympics (despite not being disabled) because I "feel" a certain way?

You won't be technically prevented from trying to, but it occurs that the Paralympics have the binary eligibility system based on human attributes that can be objectively perceived by us via the senses and a portion of these attributes are majoritarily caused by external, non-psychological incidents, even if, by that, we are also including the athlete's genetics or pre-birth inconveniences

We could assume, however, that it is a bit tricky to even fetch such an unmellow and of-recent-popular-reach topic on the table, specially because, until we can actually engage with the social commentary that the transgender/13-year-old Olympic skateboarder/whatnot will provoke in their act, all we have by now is the idea of how malleable can be a system on which your personal concept can manage to push the boundaries from something bigger than you merely because we didn't have the time of developing a system of moral conducts on which someone is allowed to objectively affirm that the other person is not who they are saying they are? Then, no doubt, believing it is, by now, from an external perspective, an act of faith and, roughly speaking, the incapability of proving it wrong successfully

    Just like your gender then.

Anyone can look down when in the shower and find out whether they are a man or a woman.
