    I wash before putting it back, did you not do the experiment in school where you put a slice of bread in a ziplock bag?!

    I only use a bread knife to cut hard rolls though - otherwise I just use the table knife that I used to spread the butter or sauce... ain't nobody got time for additional washing up.

    I just brush off the crumbs and put it back. It's not like the knife gets dirty, so why bother washing it for just a few crumbs?

    I usually just brush off the crumbs and put it back. If it’s just bread and no butter or anything sticky, it feels like overkill to wash it every time. Knife stays clean enough for the next loaf

    Wash it every time! If a utensil leaves the drawer and is used for anything, it gets washed afterwards

    I have to wash it after every touch. Including if i have more butter. The joys of having allergies!!

    But it's not just dry bits of bread. You're wiping the bread off of the knife but there's still moisture in the bread that is now stuck on the knife

    yeah if its that crusty bread i probs wouldnt wash it

    or i'd run it under tap then wipe it quick at most
