I don't know where to put this, so I thought of putting it here. If it's in the wrong forum, Mod please move it.

Anyway, I've always been afraid of the darkness and the supernatural. It all started when I was very young. I was watching a scary movie on the television with my parents. Since that day, I became really scared of the darkness and the supernatural, things we cannot explain.

But yesterday I was at camp, they were showing this scary movie, everyone had to watch it, it was compulsory. It was probably one of the worst mistakes ever. I should never had watched it. My teacher just told me to cover my face and hold my best friend's hand. It was embarrassing, and if I saw a scary part, I would scream.

And now, I'm even more scared of the darkness, the night, and ghosts. I don't even dare to go to the toilet alone at night now, and I'm afraid of my own shadow. I really want to overcome this fear, as it is really scaring me. The movie I watched last night is still flashing in my mind, and I get timid when I think of the scary parts. Help, thanks.

if you thought it was that bad, why didnt you leave? im sure they cant force you to stay, they have no right to do that. when you think about it, think about something else, something fun that happend in your life, maybe a holiday or a day out somewhere.

The thing is, we were camping at school, and at that time, it was already late, the school lights have been turned off, and we were the only ones in the school. I didn't want to leave the room and be out there, alone. That would be even scarier tbh. I try to think about something else, I try to think of happy thoughts, but it never works, my fear always has its way of getting to me.

I don't mind the dark, except for when I'm driving. I don't like meeting other cars because their headlights bother my eyes, especially those Xenon lights.
The Xenon lights are those really bright ones that look blue. But other than that I'm not really scared scared of the dark.

Dunno why this is important but what was the film? Something in the storyline might make you overcome it, however silly that sounds.

I know what you mean I get scared of the dark too, just don't sleep in the dark sleep with your bedroom door open or something :)

It's a Thai movie with subtitles. It's called "Shutter", unfortunately there is no solution in the story, everyone ends up dead, it wasn't pretty. Now I have a fear of going to toilets alone and looking at photos because of certain things in the movie.

I've heard that we were too young to watch the movie. It was rated 16 or something, and we were all below 16. Ahh. And erm, I have a nightlight :D Haha. I don't sleep alone either, I share my room with my sister.

Edit: Ooh, I never noticed your post Expedition, sorry. I agree, Xenon lights are annoying. It's good that you aren't afraid, but do you know how to overcome the fear of darkness?

Personally, I would take this head on. "Choose" one of your fears and take it head on. For example, you say you don't like going to the toilet on your own; one night, just do it! Get out of bed, make your way to the toilet. Don't turn on the lights, just do it ;)
This will slowly help you, it just depends on whether you have the strength to do it in the first place.

Well, I'm afraid of the dark because I'm afraid that something scary might appear suddenly, something supernatural. Because of my fear of the supernatural, I am afraid of the dark.

I might try that, thanks. +Rep to everyone who has tried to help.

Nixt is right, tackling it head on is a good idea.
One night, just get up and do it, don't panic, try to stay calm, and once it's over, you'll feel really proud of yourself that you actually overcame the fear for once.

Ok Herman, i'm actually quite like you since i'm kinda scared of the dark and going alone by myself in the night even at my own house, but it's not as extreme as yours.

What I think of is that, what are the chances of anyone or anything being in your house besides your parents and sister? If anything happens you know your parents are there. Second, in life, if you don't try anything to tackle your fears, you'll just be scared forever. So take Nixt's idea and just go to the toilet or anywhere without being scared.

Something else that helps me is leaving the lights on in the dark. I leave the passage light always on. I'm not sure if your parents will let you leave it on, but if they do, just do that.

Hope this helps. ;)

I'm kinda like you. I'm not a huge fan of the dark and sometimes I do believe in Ghosts/Aliens and that they are in my house. You just have to remember that it's not real.

If you get nervous when you're in the dark, a good way to calm down your nerves is to tap certain pressure points on your body and thinking about what is scaring you. These are: Above one eyebrow, under one eye, one side of your chest, under your arm pit, top side of your hand (not palm) and whilst tapping top part of your hand, cirlcle your eyes round clockwise then anti clockwise then close your eyes and open. You do this for 10 seconds on each. This should releive the stress and the nerves. You may need to do it more than once.

How old are you? It could be a phase you'll grow out of. If you're that scared of the dark its close to night terrors, maybe you should goto a psychiatrist or something.

It's all mind over matter. I used to be similair, but when I was younger - I think everyone goes through a wee stage of it, but it's just getting out of it that's the problem.

Think about it, how often do you hear from your friends and family, that when they get up during the night someone attacks them or something? Never. What are the chances of it? Around 1 in 400 000 000! It's only in films all that stuff happens, and you need to remember there's a big line between films and reality!

You need to simply just face your fears head on and get over them I say. When you know your sister and parents are in bed, I say you just get up - IN THE DARK - and go to the toilet, then you'll know that if anything happens you can just shout on someone!

It really all is mind over matter, and if your thinking about how scary something is and how your so afraid, then of course your going to get even more scared! When you get up, just don't think about it! Think about something you perhaps done during the day, or about going to school or something!

Good luck, and it's really not that bad! ;]

I'm 12 and I'm also afraid of the dark. I sleep with my bedroom door open and the landing light on.

I'm not afraid of going to the toilet on my own, but I don't usually go to/attempt to go to sleep until my parants have gone to bed themselves. If only you could see the bags under my eyes =]

I'm starting to overcome my fear, because like you, I have been afraid of the dark since I was very young.

Well, the funny thing is, I like the door closed because I've afraid that something might pass by my door, haha. But anyway, I hope you can overcome your fears, like me (well I'm trying, haha).

The hills have eyes?? I watched that and I loved it. The thing tht creeped me out was that fat guy wit the large saggy head who went in the wheelchair.

On topic, I think you should really try and face your fears head on, like try and go to the loo with the lights out or sleep in the dark, the way I did it when I was younger was just doing it, but turning the light on if I got really worked up.

If you do get attacked by a ghost challenge it to a beat boxing competition. You may not be good but ghosts cant breathe so you'll win.

Then they get upset, you cheer them up make love and become best buddies.

Happy?

I'm not going to lie.

Your going to die, painfully, by a ghost ripping your face off....

^^^
odds of what I just said happening are slim to none, dont worry your not going to die... anytime soon.

Unless he gets hit by a bus :)...But thats not the supernatural :D

That dude made me laugh. I didn't like the little girl and who was lookin through the binoculars at the end?

Back on topic. Also think that if anythin was going to happen you'd be able to shout & people would know. I'm sure if there was something in your house your parents would notice.

I was like that for a couple of weeks aftyer watching the Exocist, All I say to myself is that Im in charge of what I see and what I dont, and If I need to toilet and its in the middle of the night, I just walk out of my bedroom down the stair and straight into the toilet do me buisness and walk straight out, its no good hesatating, it will be worse if you just belive that theres nothing there and its just your imagination than you can over come it. The only thing that freaks me out when I look into Mirros in the night, I dont know why just does, lol

yea you didnt go to see it at the cinema when it came out, and priests were outside begging you not to see it, also you didnt see everyone spewing because of it, you also didnt witness the Screaming Skull and the ring that can be seen in the movie if yoi slow it down, there is no record of these being placed in the film, well neither did I but thats what my dad told me, and everyone else who went to see it told me

When i was about 5 i watched E.T. and it scared me and i watched the bigfoot film and so did that. I just thought of them as funny characters instead of scary ones and i overcame that fear.
Try to picture your supernatural fears looking like a dancing tomato or something lol
If your in bed and you can't stop thinking about scary things read a book or watch tv to take your mind off it.
