Hello

When im at school in a lesson, and a teacher says "Sean, read out (page number) please" I GET SO SHY AND I HATE READING OUT!

It could be because of lack of confidence, but I hate it because I fear if I make a mistake everyone will laugh or something. Anyone else shy? Not mildly shy, VERY shy. I sometimes get red and sweat but not much anymore, just shy!

I wont read stuff out or like show my work to people.

I hate hate hate it, like in English when you have to do that thing where someone sits at front and answers questions about things, I can't do it..

Cant explain why, I just hate it! :(

I agree, Adam. But, especially my English teacher, if you get picked to read things theres no question about it, you gotta read.

I get very shy too. Sometimes I even put my hand up to read and then when I get picked I get all nervous of like, getting a word wrong! Especially when it's Shakespeare, loads of words that I've never seen before and I can't read it when every other word'st end'st like'st this'st.

People don't laugh when you make accidental errors. If they do, you're in a class full of ******s. You only need to be shy if you can't read... if you're at least an okay reader, then don't be shy and go for it - you'll be surprised.

Yes there is in every school. As you say, they won't laugh so there is no need to be shy! Speak loudly, clearly and confidently and ignore that nasty nervous feeling and after your first time you won't be worried about doing it again.

i hate reading because when i get really nervous, i start shaking and possibly stuttering. i went to the doctors and i was prescribed something to slow my heart rate or something like that. i think its something todo with adrenaline aswell.

You worry about nothing.

I've never had this trouble and I'm fine when I read. Just keep reading in class and you'll be fine with practice.

As the saying goes there is nothing to fear but fear itself.

most people make slight errors when they're reading out loud, so don't worry. you'll never improve if you never try, so don't worry about it!

Hi,

I'm the same as you. I hate reading. Every time a teacher asked me to read I would just say something like "I can't" or something like that. The teacher would then just pick someone else. When I had to a presention (sp), I was fine with that cause I had time to practise it :).

Thats a new one! I dont have English until next Monday, so I will try it then, although our english teacher is fat and very unattractive looking at the book and her it will be hard to imagine a fit girl..:P
