A thread was recently closed in the World News forums because the word '****' was used, this isn't racist because it's not filtered and second of all is 'Yank' racist to americans? no it isn't, the **** word is a shortend version of Pakistani. I really don't see why a good thread like that was closed, especially when people can give their views there.
Could we have it reopened?

I personally think it is more offensive than a shortened way of typing and pronouncing a word. Sure Brit, Aussie, Yank aren't at all offensive, but the 4 letter work in question is often used to describe an entire continent and area, rather than a particular country or nation. But as I have stated, I have no problem with it unless people of the Pakistan nation dislike it, as it is not our right to question it.
But the thread should not of been closed anyway. It's just moderators, super moderators and admins being too lazy to their jobs, as per usual, by closing a thread when they can remove offensive posts in just the same amount of time "/

But when you say 'you're a Brit', it is obviously going to mean you're British. But most of the time when the 4 letter word is said, it is directed as an insult and is directed at someone who isn't from Pakistan, which is probably why loads of Pakistani's hate the word.
Also, if you want to know what words are bad and what words are not, just look at news readers and political party members. I've not heard them say the 4 letter word yet :S
EDIT: Apparently the word is actually offensive to the Pakistan nation, so in fairness it should be filtered :S It is racist to them, even though it never used to be. It's because racists took the word from them and since then they've found it racist.

As I said then: "I really do not see why this word has been unfiltered. The term "****" is not an official abbreviation for the word "Pakistani" at all, it's simply a disparaging term that anyone of Pakistani decent generally finds offensive."
Actually, according to research by The Guardian, it was once a term used by Pakistani people towards Pakistani people. It was until racist people used it towards them and since then they've found it offensive when someone who isn't from Pakistan used the term towards someone from Pakistan or to describe that area of Asia.
Here is a quote which best sums this up:
"The linguistic reclamation of ****** and queer has its origins in an increased confidence and pride in black and gay culture. But even now this "flipping", as it is called, has not been totally successful. The black comedian Chris Rock can do a routine with the line "I love black people but I hate *******" but Quentin Tarantino faced widespread criticism for using the word in his films."
The key part in your sentence there is "it was once". Okay, it used to be but now, in the countries that the majority of the people on this Forum come from, it is used as a racist and disparaging term.

Reading the article, it's hard to tell if they still call each other that or not. In some parts one Pakistani who talks to another Pakistani would call that Pakistani the 4 letter word.
I suppose they do still call each other that, otherwise the argument the Pakistani Businessman has put forward would be pointless. He wants to take back the word so that only Pakistani people are the only ones to use it, which is similar to the argument that some black people put forward where they only want the "N" word used by people of 'their' kind.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,3604,1155258,00.html - Link if you want to read up on it.
Anyway, I take back what I said that they once used it because judging by that article, they still use it around their own people.

I think the word is used in most parts of the world as an abbreviation but in the uk the only time I hear it used is as a racist insult :O The word gets directed at anybody from Asia who look a little like a Pakistani even if they are Indian or any other nationality over that way.
Why dont the people just say pakistani? then there would be no argument as long as the thread/post was not put accross in an offensive context.

You're over-reacting over something you really have no need to care about. A majority of Pakistani's refuse to be called the 4 letter word because it is pretty much a racist term and the remaining amount of Pakistani people either only want to be called the 4 letter word by people who are Pakistani themselves or don't care, but the people who don't care what they are called is very low.
It's not a matter of what you think, it is what they think. They think it is a racist term most of them time, while the rest of the time they only want to be called that by their fellow Pakistanies. If you bothered reading articles you'll know why it is an 'unmentionable' word. Look at the media, the only time they use that word is when it is quoted, and most of the time it is bleeped out.
It is very similar to the common racist term which is like snigger, where only a black man/woman can call another black man/woman by that term.
So sod what you think for a change, it is up to a Pakistani member, or someone related to a Pakistani person to decide. But I can assure you that is isn't acceptable to call them that.

'Brit' is harmless because it isn't ever used in an offensive way. Do you see a French man called a Brit, because he happens to live next to the UK and some idiot thinks any country in Western Europe happens to be Brit related? No, because there is next to no logic in that. But the 4 letter word you have an obsession with has been used as a racist term more times than it has been to locate where a person comes from. You get obvious Indian men and women called that word and they're not from Pakistan, it's just thick minded people showing their lack of intelligence.
As stated, people from Pakistan only wish to be called the 4 letter word by people who are from Pakistan and this excuse "we're English, not Pakistani" is stupid, ignorant and I thought better of you. British Officials never call Asian people (the reason why it is racist) or most importantly Pakistani people by that word because they know it is offensive to them. Thinking you can call them that in a multi-cultural forum and a multi-cultural country is stupid and just shows who is a snob

WE ARE IN ENGLAND NOT PAKISTAN - Stop going on and on about 'their wishes', to be honest if it takes one person of Pakistani blood to ban the word Páki on this forum, then surely for example me and Mandez can object to the word 'brit' and we will have to filter that aswell. More to the point I would like that thread to be reopened please. People are offended by all sorts of things, doesn't mean the rest of us should stop using words we think are fine just because a few object.
We are in England although not EVERYONE is. It is considered racism around THE GLOBE not just on HxF by 1 member. The word should be filtered!
Don't get me wrong I disagree with the way England is run letting all the immagrants in and favouring them so they are actually being racsit to us. We should be like Australia and moniter everything with a half decent goverment. However this is irrelevant so ill stop.
The word brit is NOT considrered racist everywhere but that word is.

It isn't an excuse, it's reality that we are in Britain. If Pakistani people are fine with eachother calling themselves it then they ahve serious mental issues if they are offended by other people of other nationalitys saying it. British Officals never use the word because they are in fear of being branded racist, just as Micheal Howard got branded Raicts for just talking about immigration. All this red tape has provoken fear within British people thus the word has become to be known as a racist term when it isn't.
I am English and whether this country is multiculutral or not I can use the same word as Pakistanis use to call eachother. If Pakistanis, Indians, Polish and so on wish to be accepted in this country then they must learn to accept language that this country uses.
Also can a Admin/Super Mod reopen that thread please as that is what the whole thread is about.

It's got something to do with their beliefs. The 4 letter word you use means "the pure" and you're not Pakistani, so you are not "the pure" therefore they feel you have no right to say it. Their beliefs, live with it, like they put up with our beliefs, if we have any that is "/
Also, those Pakistanis aren't in this country, they are in Pakistan and they use the word in this country anyway, so what you said makes no sense. We didn't invent the word, they did ages ago, when the country was probably named that "/

I am nt racist right , I have no problem being with and seeing people from different nations however I am annoyed (thats an underexpression) regarding the immagration. HOWEVER this forum allows people from foriegn countries just as much as it does english so we should NOT INSULT them or use words considered in the world as RACIST!

But I can assure you that is isn't acceptable to call them that.
summed it up in one line.

Actually it's the other way around, we have to put up with immigrants sponging off us, what do they have to put up with from us? Christians don't impose their beliefs on Muslims in this country or anything like that. If we are going along the 'you invented the word' then surely we should ban all foreigners using the English language?

No. I am ashamed of racist people because it drags peoples opinion of britain down even more. People should be treated the same regardless of their race.

So you would happily go up to a black man and refer to them by the N word? You really are anti-social "/ I wouldn't even say immigrants are all that bad. They work for cheap and what they work for can sell whatever they create and get a good income. Not all Pakistani people don't work "/ You are seeing everything in black and white, especially by saying Christians don't impose their beliefs. You do realise there are different types of Christians? You can get extremist Christians which moan till they go blue in their face and you can get muslims which are not extremist and do alot for their community. I should know, I know a few muslim people who are actually quite friendly and disagree with extremist muslims thinking they're a bad name for muslims "/
If you see things in black and white, you're not going to get far in life. You'll be in-jail with an anti-social behaviour order in no time.

You have just completely changed what you said, you said that at the start of your writing so you wouldn't be called racist over you not agreeing with immigration, I see it all the time.

No I wouldn't go up to a Black man and say that because they are not a country, they are a race. So I wouldn't need to mention Black peopel if I were writing about countrys societys, like for example 'Brits spend Ł20 million a year on plants'. We are not talking about hate here, I do and would not call someone a Páki out of hate, I would use it as slang. You seem to think I hate all muslims and Pakistanis because I use one word of slang.

I am annoyed with imagration BECAUSE it is predicted soon there will be more immagrants the britsh in the coutry which contradicts the point of calling ti great britain. I treat people just the same no matter what the race but I wouldnt want ANYONE to take over.

Now you make no sense. The N word means a black person, not a country? You can say a 'N spend Ł20million a year on plants.' And black people are a type of skin tone/colour, not a race? But to a Pakistani, using the word is offensive, as I have stated. To them, and what they define it as, is only meant to be talked around them.

No, the N word isn't widespread slang and isn't to describe a nation of people, 'Whitey' is not the same as 'Brit'

That's what you made it out to be "/ You said the 'N' word means a race, it means a type of person who has a dark skin tone "/ 'Race' means ethnicity which is tribe, religion etc. Not all black people are gospel singers who are a part of some unknown tribe in the middle of Africa who share the same language and came from the same country...

No, the N word isn't widespread slang and isn't to describe a nation of people, 'Whitey' is not the same as 'Brit'
The N word is very widespread in the black community between each other. My great grandad actually had a dog called N***** and that was because it was dark brown (N Brown was used all the time years ago) :o also see the tins of shoe pollish etc from years ago. certain words start off with good intentions but once they start being used as an insult are hard to get back from "the racists"
The P word could be used in a non offensive way in my opinion but most of the time its classed as offensive so should be filtered :o
Maybe take your argument up with the british press and ask them why they filter the word? if the press feel the need for it to be filtered then I am all for HxF doing the same.
I have an indian friend who says he hates being called the P (that is used as racist towards him) because he is insulted as hes indian and not pakistani. there is a lot of strong feelings between the 2 countries and from what I have witnessed lots of them dont have much time for each other.
Most people cant tell the difference between a pakistani and an indian anyway so when calling them a P you would be offending them.
