View Full Version : Ideas :)
Right, im making a hosting panel
not somthing like cpanel, its for resellers/webhosts etc who want to make packages but dont have the time to continually edit the page, so its all automated & all you need to do is put the specs in the admin panel (demo here: http://rh4u.co.uk/admin, iv disabled user logins for the time being).
Iv got some ideas, and some stuff iv made ;)
Also, can you give me some ideas as to what you would like to see in version 0.1?
Made:
just the shared hosting add packages page atm
Auto updater/patcher - whatever you wanna call it :)
Also, i need to know if you would like it to automaticaly update if theres a new release OR you have to go to update.php, bearing in mind, the most voted for will get put in :)
Thanks, Dominic
Interesting concept. I'd suggest it doesn't happen automatically, I am cringing at the amount of possible errors stemming from that...
Nah it works fine atm :)
www.rh4u.co.uk/admin/update.php :)
But theoretically you would need to upload that file to upgrade it, yes? How would it update without that file?
Nope, grabs the file from my server, if its a higher version than the one that the user has, it will copy ALL the data from the update file to the clients files :) I spent yesterday doing it :)
I'm not terribly sure that would work on another server... AFAIK file_get_contents will only grab the HTML output of a file on another server. That's how I'm assuming you're doing it, anyway.
nah, it uses file_get_contents to update it & check the licence, but it grabs all the data from a text file :)
to see the temp update file: http://rh4u.co.uk/updates/hostingpanelatest_index.txt
then once youv seen that run http://rh4u.co.uk/admin/update.php
:)
Oh, all right then. Still, I think you should go to update.php and update it there, rather than it happening automatically. People mightn't want to upgrade to the newest version straight away etc.

Edit: lol vtaz, was that u?
But that's just raw text. Have you tried it with PHP code?

I see you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer when it comes to design and professionalism.
Nothing on the text file is echoing out on update.php for me...

Knifes can be sharpend ;)
EDIT: also wouldn't your update feature only update one file, not them all?
So anyways, back on topic, what features shall i put in it?

That's the moral behind the saying. :P

How could a single text file update all the files? I mean if the update gets the content and replaces a file with the new content how would it know the diffrence from diffrent parts of the text file to go in diffrent files? Or are you using more then one text file?

It isnt a single text file, but in update.php iv repeated the process about 3 times to update all the current files

I was just thinking that... In all honesty mate, I'd probably go with an upload upgrade rather than something like this. It's a nice idea in theory, but messy :eusa_wall

I take it you have taken into account backing up the sql data and then updating the db.

Yeah, like that... :eusa_wall

now why would i want to overwrite the database file? That would be pointless & useless ;)

I assume he means in case the database file is edited incorrectly in some way during an upgrade?

Pretty much. If you make any db updates in a new release then how do you plan on implementing them through auto updating?
I assume he means in case the database file is edited incorrectly in some way during an upgrade?
The database is only edited when new features are added ;) But yes, it is all backed up (To their server, not mine). And if anything does go wrong during the update, you can run rebuild.php and that will restore the system to V1.0 (Keeping the same database/sql file, stops you loosing on packages youv added :)) :) and you can wait till the bug is fixed before re-updating
Anyway, what features shall i add?

im rly not a fan of this rembmering your news system..
is this all in 1 file too? Nope :), if it was all in one file the db would not work, the updater would not work, the core would not work :)
will it have an order system? YES in later releases
do you love me? NEVER!!
do u know how to make it connect to whm? Yup
