View Full Version : Habbo Ruins Lives.

I've spent about a year on Habbo Uk and have achieved nothing from it. Yes I have won a couple of comps here and there but Habbo in my opinion is a waste of time. Think about all the sad hours of your lives you've spent on your PC trying to be someone your not online. You may think it is a big life achievement to earn a throne, or own a super casino but really it isn't. In real life you have failed to achieve anything when you could be getting out and involved in sport, friends(real ones), music, fun and learning. You get hooked to Habbo and are made to spend money on a graphic created by sulake. You may think it is fun but all you are doing is staring at a screen in disbelieve when you meet a member of staff. Really they are just average people and if you passed them in a street, would you care.
I admit I've wasted away some of my life on Habbo and I really regret it. I could have learned guitar, got good at football, gone out with friends more than I did and taken school a lot more seriously. It's fun at the start and you go on it a lot - meet new "people" and "friends" but have you actually seen what they look like or even had a real conversation with them, unless they are your real life friends. Most likely no... Real friends are REAL life friends, you could be talking to anybody online.
Most of your real life friends won't go on Habbo and you would probably be embarassed if they found out you did.
So it's your choice - waste your life, or live life to the full and not on some
virtual world. Even though my time on Habbo has been fun, it doesn't even compare to real life.
It's ruined my life for a bit, don't let it ruin your's.

I've not just learned this but everyday I played it I felt a bit of guilt. I was really good at guitar and stuff and I could be even better if I'd gone off Habbo and sat with my guitar for the same ammount of time.

Some of my real life friends used to play Habbo in like 2005. But they left, I'm not sure what I think of Habbo anymore, it's fun, but it does seem to be going downhill quite fast. The hotel will always be the same, it's just the people on it that change the environment. Like a quote I heard "Habbo provides an already strong, rich, friendly and positive environment, but it's the teens themselves who write the script."

Hmmm, bit of a generalisation there. It hasn't ruined lives, it only does that if you take it seriously... You have achieved something from it, you have won competitions... What else do you want? A physical medal to show you and others that you've won such competitions/events? Again, most of what you've said ie. big achievement earning a throne is a bit of a generalisation, to most it's nothing and in reality it doesn't really show much. It depends entirely on how much you take Habbo seriously.
I have a few friends of whom I know in real life who go on Habbo with me, one I met only a few months ago through a friend who goes to University. I have a ife, and a small portion of it involves talking to friends and being socialble on or through Habbo, heck, you're talking to me/us on a forum which came to life through the media of Habbo...
REAL doesn't mean you know them in real life. To shorten real friends, you take away real and there you have it, friends. You can make friends on Habbo and you can make friends in real life, you don't have to have just one type of friend...
Real life is a primary, Habbo life is a secondary, think of it like that :)
You can learn the guitar etc while having a Habbo, you don't actually have to be on 24/7 and allow it to take over most of your life, only if you really have nothing better to do. It's a game for teenagers, not a different life you must live, afterall.
EDIT: That's weird... My paragraps have jumbled up, the real life is primary etc was the last bit :S

Gotta agree here. A couple of years back I got addicted really bad. Spent way too much time & money on it and it took getting hacked to finally make me break my addiction.
Sad times.

I agree as a few of my friends went on but when they left and stuff it got rubbish but I kept going on. I find forums and alts and stuff a good use of time to share ideas and stuff but the game is such a waste.

I understand u don't like habbo, but will u donate, i kno u probs say no, but tbh, I get ur side of the argument, but I am gonna live life to its fullest after I feel the time for me to quit....
will u donate :D?Here is an example, msb. feels the need to gather more furni, but for what? He also adds he will live life to the full AFTER he has left habbo. This shows he doesn't life life to the full with habbo. So I say leavve habbo second - real life comes first. I know it is weird bt if you died tomorrow would say your life was well spent while on Habbo?

Nope, he's just addicted. For all we know, he is doing alot outside of life or does more with his life on Habbo than he does without it. Habbo can be a part of a life, and as long as you enjoy it, then it is a good part of your life. It's like console games, they maybe ruining your life, but if you enjoy them, then who's to say it is? Maybe you should stop criticising peoples hobbies?

Im not, im putting across my idea, you may find it offenceive but I don't really treat Habbo as a hobbie. Gaming is different to Habbo, most of your friends will own a games cosole/know a bit about them and you can talk about them at school etc. But I bet you you would be embarassed to talk about habbo at school?

Yeah I admit I am addicted, tbh but really, it may pay out for the end of it?
As when you get comps to win trips, dvds, etc... I can enter them... my aim to get richer, make casino, try to get more, then collect spare ts etc... come on not as often... and spend the ts for trading to make rooms for comps?
See where that takes me
PS. Phil i don't mean it in an rude way, just wondering tbh if ur gonna donate it to any1... I am greedy tbh and addicted to habbo, atleast I admit as most members on this forum don't admit it.

Not really, it's an online community you go on to talk to your friends when they're at home and not up for going out. I only really go on there to catch up with people I am friendly with who I met on Habbo and don't want to add to my MSN or to mess around with friends I know in real life. If people mock you about going on a RPG online game, then they're quite sad for suggesting you have no social life when you're using a site for what it was originally created for.
I don't treat Habbo as a hobby, but I look at the bigger picture. Some people do treat it as a hobby and if they enjoy it, then so be it. Also, you can play console games and talk about them to people on Habbo or on this forum. You're real life friends may not be the only ones who know what a PS3 is or what SSBB is...

Let me start by saying.. I've been playing on and off since 2001. Do I have friends? Yes. Do I participate in rl things? Yes. Am I on my computer 24/7 playing Habbo? No. Do I dream of Habbo? No.
I also recently took some stupid online quiz thing about "How Addicted are you to Habbo?" and my results were "Non player or ex-player"
Habbo doesn't ruin lives. It's your fault for becoming addicted. If you turn down some social event because you're trying so hard to get that next throne, that's your fault. All Sulake has done is create a product that is clearly accepted by thousands of young teens, and they're smart when it comes down to it.
At spending money - They don't force you to. In fact, it's even easier to NOT spend money these days then it was 2, 3 and maybe 4 years ago since they have created credits as a tradeable item. I've gotten a few thrones worth.. have I paid? Nope.
At the staff member thing.. I'd say it's all about who you are personally. Some people would see Brad Pitt walking down the street and be like *REMOVED* ITS BRRADDD DOMFOMGOMOGMGOMGOM WHERES ANGELINA!!1/?!?!!??! would I? No. Staff members, just like celebrities are only people. If you think that you need to scream and jump for joy when they say 'hello' to you, then that's on you.
I admit I've wasted away some of my life on Habbo and I really regret it. I could have learned guitar, got good at football, gone out with friends more than I did and taken school a lot more seriously
Once again, that's on you. I'm doing fine this year in school.. in fact I'm probably doing better then I've ever done. Do I occasionally play Habbo? Yeah. It's all about you. YOU need to set limits for yourself. YOU need to know when to stop playing. It's all about YOU, not Habbo.
I don't really see how you can say "None of your rl friends would play Habbo" when Habbo has.. what? 7000-9000 people on everyday? That's just the UK Hotel.. nevermind CA and USA
So in closing, Habbo doesn't ruin lives. People seriously need to stop blaming Habbo and Sulake for this. They never forced you to play, it was your own choosing.

Well your original post was saying that it ruined your life.. soo..
Anyways, this just goes back to my post. If someone takes the game seriously, spends money, gets furni addicted and loses all of their real life friends... then it's their fault. They need to learn how to deal with the addiction. It's just like someone being addicted to smoking or drinking, they need to get over it. It's not the Tobacco companies fault they got addicted. They aren't saying "TRY OUR PRODUCT OR WE'LL KILL YOUR FAMILY!"
All they are doing is offering the product and waiting for people to take it.
Again, you don't need to pay money for it.

I agreeee again, it's just i really get frustraated over how people are on it for ages and don't achieve anything physically. Habbo in moderation is okay but I really hate people who will go on it non-stop and spend mony on it.

I spend money on Habbo, I work for Habbox, but I still have time for school work and friends. It's not whether you play or not, just how much you play on it.
I remember the night I joined Habbo I found it really interesting, then the next day I got up at about 7am to play Habbo again. Nearly three years later, I still play, but I've learnt not to have it take over my life. When I was ill earlier this year, I stopped playing, for a few weeks because I knew I wouldn't get better if I was on the computer all day. It's knowing when you shouldn't play.

I couldn't help but agree with all of that, especially the being embarassed to admit you go on Habbo in front of friends. I might consider writing an article based on this thread next week.
It's a game, its not ment to have a point. You play a game on a console, you get nothing but you just play for fun, doesn't need a reason.

Lol, I wont even bother reading, as I can state my view just by looking at the title.
Habbo is a game. Its not some magical life transforming thing, you have the choice to buy credits and play it. Its your call... if you choose to splash out on credits, then fine, but you cant then go and say that Habbo has ruined your life, because it hasnt, its you that has, because you made the choice to spend all your money on it, and spend the time on it :) You havent acheived anything, because... well, you cant? Its virtual, not real. You dont get anything out of playing console games, yet they havent ruined anyones lives, infact that keep most people from boredom, and you cant say you've never played a console game and not enjoyed it!
I've been playing Habbo for ages now and have spent loads on it, and it hasnt ruined my life :P
Sorry if that came across harsh, lol, but its true.

I think Habbo has changed my life in a good way tbh. It's helped me form a lot of interests in things, especially in computers, not just things like making a Habbo fansite. But if I didn't join Habbo, I wouldn't know most things about computers I do, it really sparked a interest for me.
I now understand HTML, understand how to make a website, and just generally understand computers and the internet a lot better. I've currently been predicted a GCSE B if I was to take the IT GCSE now... I doubt I could do that otherwise. I've learnt how to type a hell of a lot quicker which I've needed to do, since my hand writing has been always been terrible so I've always had to consult to a computer to type it up, I can do it quicker now and I also think Habbo's improved my grammar. It's also helped me in other subjects as I know how to research things in the internet a lot better through Wiki and Google much more efficently and asking for help on forums.
You say you could of learnt to play football better, that's not going to benefit you in life? Learning things on Habbo like having something to aim for, patience and online skills may actually help you get the grades and degrees you need, and maybe even a job if it's hooked you on to IT which it does for quite a lot of people. With Football can you do any of that? ;)
I think it's benefited me anyway and Habbo is good in sensible dose's.
i agree completely with Phil

Habbo ruins your social life and affects your academic capabilitites as do all games, if you let them, and if you ask me, most people on here let them at one point.

We don't all take it as serious as you, we don't all play 24/7 *cough* e5 *cough*, most of us play for little time at all, then go out and enjoy our lives, habbo doesn't ruin lives at all, how can a GAME
ruin your life, it just..... can't!!!
Couldn't have put it better myself..... really, I couldn't

Totally agree ^^
Habbo also introduced us all to forums like these where, I can safely say that probably everyone has learnt something (well, at least the people that visit the Web design section anyway...)
I dont think Habbo ruins lives, its peoples own choice to play on it, and you can just as easily quit when you want. If you keep going back to it, there's obviously some element of it of which you like, therefore it cannot be crap and ruin your life ;)

If it ruins your life then you have serious mental issues.

I am greedy tbh and addicted to habbo, atleast I admit as most members on this forum don't admit it.
lol.. yes and how often do these trips and all that crap come around.

Yes people do say 'Habbo Ruins Lifes' BUT STOP.
Surely it only ruins your life, if you are not enjoying it. Life does not last forever, so why dont you just let people do what THEY want.
Also i do play guitar and i'm currently doing my 5th grade at fourteen. Also i play in Colchester United's Advanced Coaching Program. ALSO In GCSE Im expected to get 12 A-A* . So just because you play habbo does not mean you do NOT have a life.
BECAUSE YOU CAN.

I don't agree.
Habbo doesn't ruin your life if you only play 1 hour a day?
It's not alot of money if you don't buy creds.
Habbo can be fun, a decen laugh.
You can do both, have fun irl and have fun on Habbo..
It's not hard to go out instead of sitting on Habbo, 1 hour a day on the PC is nothing.

Yes, I only go on Habbo when I feel like it, and even when I was fairly addicted in total I spent a total of £3.50 oncreidts, so hardly breaking the bank and I neer let it get in the way og school or real hobbies so it doesn't have to ruin yur life unless you take it too seriously.

Most of the comments are a load of crap. Habbo doesn't ruin your life, you do. If you cannot control yourself then it's your fault, not habbos, they don't ram the mouse and keyboard into your hand. They have marketed it very well but it's not a physical addiction.
Habbo has only ever done good things for me. It helped me to learn how to create websites and i've met some great people through it. The skills I have learnt through Habbo now are helping my futher life. Plus my grades have never been better, I came out of my exams with top marks apart from one subject, Art, hate it.
Learn some self control, that is all that's needed.
habbo doesn't ruin lives as YOU have the choice to play it or not and if you believe it does ruin lives then quit.

Agreed.
Yep my parents used to say imagine how amazing you could've been at other things such as your piano or become even better at football.
In an essence I feel happy I got a perm ban because I have no reason to go on now, it's all gone.

You have no one to blame but yourself. And that's true of all Habbo players.
