In ukraine a brain surgeon operates with a £30 Do It Yourself drill instead of the £30000 compressed air medical drill normally used because they can't afford it. Can you belive that? I certainly wouldn't like it if they used a £30 drill if I needed any brain surgery :P

offtopic: 1000 posts! Yay!

All you need the drill for is to relieve pressure on the brain from the skull. So a normal cordless drill is perfectly fine. They do a similar procedure in saw 3 using a normal drill.

I hope it's sterilised. That's just incredible.

Because they can't afford to spend 30k on a proper one in every hospital.

If it does the same job and they use a sharp enough drill bit then great. I bet they don't leave B & Q or wherever they get treated with mrsa like you would leaving our hospitals after a 30k infected drill was used.

And who said otherwise?
In the ukraine and russia they use vodka for pain relief for many different things including minor ops where proper medical treatment cant be afforded.
