^ Gurren Lagann Limited Edition Boxset, Evangelion Platinum Boxset, Gunbuster 2 OVA, Tokyo Godfathers and Millennium Actress movies. I never even knew Gunbuster 2 had even been released over here. I couldn't find anything about it on the internet... the DVD is region 2 though! It's real!

^ Inside the Gurren Lagann Boxset is of course the DVDs plus Simons core drill that lights up, a Yoko pin badge and a Dai Gurren Brigade logo you can iron onto your clothes. I wore the Yoko badge on sunday. :8 I stuck a 20th Century Boys sticker on it though and after I peeled it off this morning it left a huge sticky mark on the badge and I had to scrub it off. -_- Now it looks pretty dirty but the camera didn't pick it up. Next expo I'll pin it to my hat and stick no stickers on it!

^ Inside the EVA Platinum Boxset is a 60 page booklet, three art cards and of course the DVDs. Also included are four directors cut episodes hence seven volumes for a 26 episode series. This cost £60 alone.

^ Gintama volume 12, Bleach volume 26, Peace Maker Kurogane volume 1 & 2 and Gurren Lagann volume 1. I've been waiting for a whole year for the Peace Maker Kurogane manga to finally get released - I hope it's as good as it's prequel! I've read a bit of the Gurren Lagann manga and so far it's almost identical to the anime at parts, but completely different at others, but that doesn't even matter because the changes are good. For an anime turned manga it also has fantastic art.

^ The Ice Wanderer, The Walking Man and Quest For The Missing Girl. I became a fan of Jiro Taniguchi after I read The Walking Man a few months ago. I had to buy some more of his manga! I was looking at the manga at this stall for a good five minutes and then when I picked up The Walking Man and decided to buy it the guy behind the stall was like "Good choice! That's one of my favourites." I was happy to know other people in the world appreciate this unknown masterpiece. :D

^ 20th Century Boys volume 1 & 2 and Pluto volume 1 to 3. As you probably already know, I finished all 24 volumes of 20th Century Boys in three weeks last month :P but I just had to buy the first two volumes. That's all thats out so far, but Viz are releasing one volume every two months. So hopefully in four years the whole series will finally be available to buy over here. Wait! Four years!? Sob. :( It feels so good to own 20th Century Boys though. Pluto is another manga by the same author. It's a remake of one section of Astro Boy. With Urasawa's input it must be hardcore. Can't wait to read it!

^ Vagabond volume 1 to 3, Haruhi volume 2 and Pretty Face volume 1 to 3 and volume 6. Vagabond, I've been told, is one of the best mangas ever created so I thought I'd buy the first three volumes and check it out. After flicking through it does indeed look amazing. I was quite disappointed by the Haruhi manga but I bought the second volume anyway, and I own Pretty Face volume 4 and 5 so I bought the missing volumes I needed.

^ Genshiken volume 1 to 9. Complete series. I watched the anime a while ago and loved it and lately the manga keeps popping up on various forums and websites I visit. I checked it out on MyAnimeList and a review this guy on there typed upon completing the series convinced me to buy it. It was totally appropriate for the expo like atmosphere as well. :P Can't wait to read it!

^ Trigun Maximum volume 7 to 14. I have the first six volumes plus the prequels so I thought I'd buy the rest. The last volume I think was only released recently. I'm still missing volume 13 though. Also, how cool is the cover for volume 10? Wolfwood is awesome.

^ Chris of Smeeeeeeeg. Craig Charles is a legend. I didn't really speak to him much though because I didn't know what to say. Now I kind of wish I bought a poster instead of the book so I could have put it on my wall for all to see. I was afraid it would get damaged though and a book was sturdier. :P Also, the signature above Craig's was already there. To be honest I don't know who's signature it is. It's not a familiar name to me. :P

Gon has been released over here quite a few times by different publishers so the chances are you've seen a comic version of Gon somewhere or another, but he was also a playable character in Tekken 3.

I'll make sure i go next time. sounds fun. tho train from edinburgh down to london would be a bit boring =/ way pack up would be good tho with all the stuff id get xD

Display case has another 2 shelfs but 3rd one just has Light and my signed Uroboros Album. and 4th is just boxes. when i get more stuff ill move tuff around. i may end up having a shelf just for chopper since theres so much chopper merch out thehre and cheap. can get chopper toilet paper lol.

lol tbh im not that fussed about it. My OP and DB are mixed. with VIZ and GM. and my Vol 9 was printed to far up on the book so it got cut slightly. The 2nd picture with the bottom viz logo i got that on one of my Z volumes i was pretty annoyed then lol. 1-11 13-17 All have normal Viz and 12 had that =/ But tbh no one takes to much notice of that generaly only the covers. tho db and z have that on going picture

Im having to do a little over time now. There so much stuff in japan being release that i want to get, The one piece dvds are speeding up. we're getting another 3 this year. possible a 4th which the dvds are £23 each. Plus i want to complete Z/NHK/ And atleast get partialy caught up on naruto and DGM. Due to the OP manga increase starting next year. that will be about.. £25 each month. but i dont care ^^ worth it.

Have DGM dvd and fma dvd to get aswell ;-; might cancel some stuff lol..

American. OP has 13 Eps per dvd. but unlike naruto etc if the arc finishes in the next ep or w.e they add the extra ep in. so S1/V4 Had 14 episodes. and FMA is just the singles compressed into a boxset. tho £17.99 instead of £60 is much better lol.

I dont know about other companies but funimation. All there new titles they release in 12 to 14 episode sets. Series they have had for a little while get re-released in a boxset form. with a cheaper price tag. And some series like DBZ/Yu yu hackashu get re-re-release lol with bigger sets and cheaper. like DBZ you were getting on average 30+ eps for £22

Since you have a region free dvd player now i would recommend you buy american dvds. they take better care with them and the transfer is better. You dont have to deal with problems liek MANGA ent subbing the dub, and Death note dvds with a wierd crackling noise. I havent tried any other companys apart from funimation tho.

Well anime distributors seem to be treating the UK quite nicely recently. We get two volumes of Claymore for the price of one, a limited edition UK only set for Gurren Lagann, The Evangelion Platinum boxset is also UK only and it comes with more extra's than other versions. We're also the only English speaking country to receive 20th Century Boys on DVD. 4 Digital Media released it two months ago over here but it's only just been licensed in America. 4 Digital Media give us a tonne of extras as well, which America probably won't get. Plus those extras aren'y only for the first movie, but we get even more with the second and third movies as well. Funimation is scarce in the UK. They've got loads of series but only release the bare minimum over here, so it's probably better to buy American DVDs when it comes to them but with every other company I don't mind waiting a little longer because UK DVDs are usually always better in my opinion. I guess since the anime market in the UK is so small when compared to America companies have to make their DVDs impressive so people will buy them. :P

Well... not really. :P Their The Girl Who Leapt Through Time DVD nears perfection. I see no problems with their release of The End of Evangelion either. Also, there are problems with the subtitle timing on the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex DVDs but apart from that everythings good. They originally subbed the dub for the movies, but they redone it and translated it properly and now it's fine. Their Read or Die DVD is great, and so is Akira. They released Millennium Actress as well, and I truly believe they done a fantastic job with that. They only seem to mess up the popular series like Death Note and Bleach. Their translation is off and they're obsessed with American extras when it comes to those series, but otherwise they're good.

Heres my new stuff.

One manga, one novel. Black God volume 6 and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Black God was veeeeeery good. Around four chapters dedicated to backstory which at first I wasn't too bothered with but they turned out to be amazing. Then a few chapters with a fight between a cool anti-hero like character and an ultra badass, and a fantastic cliffhanger ending to finish it off. Actaully this was a brilliant volume lol. Haruhi, as I stated in the other thread, was surprisingly good. No, it wasn't good. It was awesome. Offers a lot more than the anime could. Can't wait for the second novel.

Before going on holiday I ordered a bunch of chirashi, which to my understanding are like mini posters used for promotional purposes. They were waiting for me when I got back.

I got seven in total, which cost only £8. Free shipping even when it's from Japan, woohoo! Four 20th Century Boys ones, one for the first movie, one for the second movie, and two for the third. A Summer Wars one, an Evangelion 2.0 one and a Bleach: Fade to Black one. They're double sided, too. :D

That guy is seriously the best seller EVER. Shipped the same day I bought them, and free postage on orders over $10. Each chirashi is $1.85 (£1.09). I'll definitely be buying from him again.

i'll look but im buying from US. im not giving MANGA any of my money anymore. Only for Bleach and Naruto. Shippuuden i'll be buying from the US.

Found various places for OP movies 4-9 which is awesome. gonna mayb look at other series. Buying some pokemon movie ones for my mates bday, she has the same level of obsession for pokemon as i do for OP.

It's a collaboration between Funimation and Manga. Everything Funimation did is there, but Manga are distributing it because Funi don't distribute to the UK. So it's exactly the same as the US version, only much cheaper. It's nonsense to order the US version because you'll be losing money for nothing different. Your choice, though. :P

7x5 is a bit small. The ones I bought were 7x10.4 (inches). The Book Depository refunded me just now because they messed up my order, which is a first for them, so I might buy some more. :8 I'd like a Gintama one but I don't think they exist. I can't even seem to find the Gintama movie poster SJ gave out for free in their magazine. Maybe if I find out what issue it was in... :eusa_thin

Since it's a collaboration, a share of the money does go to Funi. A share of the money also goes to Manga, and also to the animation studio that created the anime, and also to the staff and cast, and also to the online distributor. They all receive small shares out of the total, so buying the US version will make very little difference.

Manga only get a % of the dvds sold in the UK, thats all. they dont get a % of ones sold in US. since funi distribute dvds them self.

I really do despise MANGA. Naruto the cut out the textless OP/ED. Death Note Has audio errors, Bleach has disc errors like. case says eps ?? to ?? but the dvd has extra eps. Girl who .. no subs at certain parts.

Where as ive had no problems from Funi or.. Revelations who i get th FMA sets from.

Yes, but you're saying how you're going to buy the US version so Funi receive a share of the money. I was just saying how they still receive a share of the money despite it being distributed by Manga over here in the UK, and also how buying the US version won't make much difference in the profit Funi make from UK DVDs.

Manga could improve in a lot of areas, but I don't hate them. I just don't like how they shove a load of America extra's on to their DVDs with people trying to sound like they know what they're on about. I watched The End of Evangelion a few days ago, and it had audio commentary with the American voice actors. I wondered what they'd say about the last scene considering they weren't involved in the making of the movie at all so I changed the audio track to listen and the first thing I heard was "I like that kind of rainbow over the moon effect here... I don't know what it means (laughs), but I like it." If I wanted to listen to meaningless, idle convosation I'd go sit on a bus. These people have no idea what they're taking about, so why are they doing the audio commentary? Commentary is suppost to be for original directors and cast so they can actually talk about the movie, how they made it and what it means. It's not for some people who enjoy talking. It really brings my piss to a boil, you know what I mean?

I flipped over to the commentary track on one of the series episodes as well and of course, the commentary is by the dub cast, and when one of the characters had a comedic moment on screen the dub cast doing the commentary laughed and commented how the voice actor playing the character was "the original Toji" (Toji is the characters name). Do they know what original means? This guy isn't original, but he has ruined the original character. Ahh, they just annoy me so much. :P Manga did the right thing with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time though. Audio commentary with the Japanese director and cast! Woohoo! I actually listened to it all, and I was enlightened. More of that please, Manga. And less of the American extra's.

Revelation are good, MVM are good, ADV are my favourites, Beez have got their extra's and stuff down, but they need to improve their subtitles and I have no opinion on Funimation because I have never bought or watched any of their DVDs. I hold a grudge against them though because they don't distribute to the UK!

Yes but what i'm meaning is my copy dosen't benifit MANGA.

The dvds are on the Americans dvds they just get them when they buy the series so blame who ever they buy them off.

i can't say for any other company but Funimation. There commentarys are decent ( latest OP one was kinda crap ) due to eric vale etc are script writers aswell or have a secondary job so its intresting to hear how they solved some translation issues etc Random chat not really into.

Baki the grappler had the dir en grey/child prey pv, FMA had L'Arc~en~ciel/Ready Steady Go pv aswell. But yes. there idea of extras seem to be a commentary involving one of the actors etc. but like.. The FMA sets ive been getting come with booklets with artwork and information from the director from bones. and the FMA movie has 2 discs worth with japanese extras. so they can offer some decent stuff but really only for certain series.

Relelations just added what funi had. and yea it is a bit of :@ that they dont distribute here but just have to deal with it :( would be good if they did tho.

Sword of the stranger and akira blu rays are region free so buying them next month i think.

They don't make that much profit. Maybe a few quid per DVD sold... you'd have to be pretty stingy to go out of your way and waste money on importing multiple DVDs over from America. :P Manga are doing us a favour with Claymore since Funi did all the work and Manga are distributing it two volumes for the price of one.

I guess if a company wants to put Japanese extra's and commentaries on the DVD they have to pay extra, so thats why Manga do their own... maybe. They're cheap. But some of their DVDs do have a little Japanese extra's... whats up with that? ADV have good extra's on their DVDs, and good commentaries. They also go out of their way to compile booklets full of information, behind the scenes extras and interviews with the Japanese staff and cast for their more well know series. I believe they do all that themselves. More companies should start doing booklets. I've come across DVDs before that have bios and tons of info as an on-disc extra. I don't want to stare at the TV and read, I'd rather read it in book form.

All BluRay discs should be region free because it's a complete rip off otherwise. If DVDs and Games were all region free the world would be a much better place.

And i meant the american dub extras where there. so they came with the series when manga bought it. allt he did was slap there logo on it and do all there things.

and i would like booklets aswell well. id prefer if they were kept in special editions or season sets. makes them more worth while. i know the dragonbox's are coming with 80 page hardback books.

Apologies for my mistakes. I was up all night the day before at the Cambridge Rock Fest and was completed knackered when I posted that. :P Ok, it wouldn't make you stingy but it would make you mean and downright mad.

Huh? What America Extra's are we on about? They don't come with the series when companies license it, they produce their own America extra's. The episodes and Japanese extra's are what come with a series, ova or movie when licensed.

Theres enough info, behind the scenes extras and interviews they can right about to last them a life time so they should come with ever DVD in my opinion. Limiting the booklets to certain boxsets and special editions would just be annoying. Every volume of Utawarerumono (six in total) came with an 8 page booklet with at least two interviews in both.

Another thing I like, Manga do this a lot, is how some companies print a poster on the back of the DVD cover. I would never actually take the cover out and put it on my wall because I'd just be left with a simple DVD box but every poster I've come across so far has been excellent. ADV do this a lot as well, I don't know if any other companies do. Manga sometimes take it one step further though and include a little fold out booklet with their DVDs that folds out to reveal the poster. That's much better because I'd actually take the booklet out of the DVD and stick the poster on my wall. That's perhaps the only thing other companies should learn from Manga. :D

It's one of the most mainstream anime behind Naruto and Bleach.
Saying that, it's not a bad thing although Death Note is usually a starter anime for people. Well for most people I know it was their first.

Pretty much. Everyone and their mother has seen or at least heard of Death Note these days and bums it left, right and center. But so they should. Death Note is awesome!

Did you read the manga before watching the anime or the other way 'round?

I watched the anime, then read the manga and while the manga is undoubtedly awesome, I like the anime better. The voice actors really brought the characters to life and Madhouse sure know how to handle the animation. The series is worth it for Mikami's crazy writing frenzy in episode 36 alone. Also, did I mention the voice actors really brought the characters to life? Light's VA and Matsuda's VA in episode 37... BEST. VOICE. ACTING. EVER.

Anime then by the 10th ep i was reading the manga. this was way back before the hype started because i remember was mate in college he told me to try it.

and the anime va's are good i just didnt like how when they turned to there side there chins grew.

Um just at the top of my head i can name 4 series that i PREFER. no point arguing on whats the best manga since everyone should know ^^ dno bout anime tho. havent seen a sales thing for anime series.

It depends, I think Hajime no Ippo, Code Geass, D.gray-man and Gintama are all better than Death Note.

I think only Gintama and Neon Genesis Evangelion are better than Death Note. Hajime no Ippo comes very close, and while I dislike some things in Death Note but love everything in Hajime no Ippo, I can't bring myself to put it any higher. I guess that's because Death Note was one of the first series to really captivate me so I have huge respect for it. But the way New Challenger is going I may just have to say that Hajime no Ippo as a whole is better than Death Note.

Yeah, but I wasn't aware they were available in the UK. I'm sure it was USA and Japan only? Also, I noticed a Gamecube reference in Hajime no Ippo. An advertisement for the 'G-Cube' can be seen in the background in a scene with Ippo and Takamura. I took a screenshot of the scene when I saw it but all of my files are on my other computer since I had to transfer them all over when this one died. I'll post it later when I transfer all my files back. :P

Gurren Lagann part 2 is out over here in two days but it costs a bomb on Amazon. Oh I'm a natural. Seriously though, £25 (£35 RRP) for the normal DVD and £36 (£50 RRP) for the limited edition. You better get something good with the limited edition for that price.

Ah, it seems you get a 2 CD soundtrack with it. I guess thats worth it... unless they've tampered with the soundtrack. :evil:

This weekend I bought Sword of the Stranger and Slam Dunk at the expo, volume 30 of Gintama in Japanese from the Japan Centre and Rurouni Kenshin from Waterstones. I got Perfect Blue a couple of weeks ago from ebay and Mahoromatic a month or two ago from The Book Depository. The barcode on the back is actually a sticker I just cannot get off. I've heard great things about Higurashi, let me know if its any good. I've also heard a lot about Black Cat. Is that worth checking out?

I'm loving Rurouni Kenshin. The art is great and it has a nice mix of action, comedy and drama. Plus there are so many historical references to please a history nut like me to no end. I was going to watch the anime but I heard it had fillers and what not in it (aparrently the main story ends after episode 62 then there is a giant filler arc all the way up to episode 95 where the series ends), plus it is kind of old now so I'd rather read the manga. I have seen the OVA though, which was pretty awesome. I think I'll respect it even more as I get into the manga. I definitely recommend it. It's 28 volumes long but the great thing is they're all out! Finally, a long finished series where I can actually buy all the volumes!

Black cat is good only had like 8 volumes? and 24-25 eps can't remember but i enjoyed it.

And ive already seen higurashi. Its good worth a look into they do this wierd thing tho that at the start of the episode something happens. and your like O.O??. then it explains it in the ep or a later ep. Apparently the Funi box sets have been selling really well so i think they might get the other seasons aswell.

Another Higurasi season is currently airing isn't it? There must be like five seasons now.

I read about it's strange way of telling the story. That's how things develop in Baccano! (out of order) and its also one of the reasons Pulp Fiction grew so popular. It's a unique way to do things. I like series that challenge the norm so by the sounds of it I'll probably love Higurashi. I understand it created the whole crazy mode as well.

I went to Waterstones months ago and asked about the novel and they said it was currently out of print, but they should be getting more soon. I gave them my email and telephone number so they could contact me when they get some in but I haven't heard anything! And this was ages ago like back in spring! I want that novel. :(

Also, Kikujiro is pretty cheap on Amazon. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and watched it for the first time. Absolutely loved it. I think Takeshi Kitano is by far one of the best actor/director's in the industry. Have you seen Zatoichi?

I've got a lot of new stuff as well, but I'll wait 'til after christmas to take photos too seeing as how I'll have a nice new camera then.

By the way, if you're ever in London right near Picadilly Circus theres this place called the Japan Centre. From the outside it just looks like some Japanese shop that sells all these home appliances and stuff, but right at the back of the shop theres a great collection of manga and magazines all in Japanese. Last time I went they had nearly every volume of One Piece ever released. :P They also stock Shounen Jump, Shounen Sunday, Afternoon, Shoujo Beat and all that as well. It's a great shop for fans like you who like to own manga in their original format. Plus believe it or not but the volumes are £5.90 each. That's cheaper than 95% of English manga.

Yeah, all the books, magazines, novels, everything in there is Japanese. If you want the English Shounen Jumps then theres a comic shop near Leicester Square called Comicana that gets them in rather frequently. I think Orbital Manga might sell them as well.

Ticket collector on trains. atm im doing like 16 hours a week and only getting 370 a month where as i do 24 hours and get just over a grand and 3% commision on every ticket i sell, free train travel aswell but i already get that due to my dad.

Also my One Piece obesseion gets worse. MAY be getting a tattoo tommorow if my friends friend has time. Just wanting the staw hats jolly roger.

It isn't really an artbook per se. One of the characters in the series is a spy and the book is filled with memos, notes, recorded conversations and photographs taken by the character before his death. It is pretty much an extension to the series.

I think the US Funimation Evangelion 1.11 DVD is Region 2 and 4 as well as Region 1. Well, at least thats what it said on the back of the cover of the one I looked at at the Expo. It cost something crazy like £18.99 though. I love Evangelion but no way am I paying that for one film. Oh and I think the limitied edition HMV version of Evangelion 1.11 comes with a booklet, although I am unsure.

They also had the US release of Gintama at the Expo for £25. I was thinking of buying it but there aren't even any extras so whats the point. Seeing as how its an import as well the creators aren't likely to get very much money at all so no one come at me with the 'support the creators' comment.

Anyway, heres what I got at the Expo and in London over the weekend.

Friday - Azumanga Daioh (£16), MW (£13), Eden Vol 1 (99p), Oh My Goddess! Vol 1 to 4 (99p each), Gintama Vol 31 (£5.90) and Kana Pict-o-graphix (£4.99).
Saturday - Der Mond (£15), 20th Century Boys Trilogy (£15) and Ghost in the Shell 2.0 (£1).
Sunday - Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (£15), Cromartie High School (£10), Mahoromatic (£10) and I''S Vol 6 (£1).

Together it all came to just over £100. Quite a bargin if you ask me, especially seeing as how most of the manga I bought was only £1 each and ADV were selling all of their stuff really cheap. Their DVDs were such a bargin because this was the last Expo they will be attending. They're officially out of business now. They also gave everyone who got a goodie bag three free DVDs. I got the first volume of 009-1 (which I already own :P), the first volume of Samurai Gun and the first volume of Paniponi Dash (which I have actually always wanted to see). I saw that some people got Utawarerumono. Lucky buggers.

Holy crap, all ADV DVDs are currently really cheap on Amazon as well! Utawarerumono - £3.99 a volume! What a bargin. I better buy the rest of Paniponi Dash before the ADV versions cease to exist. Damn, I wish I bought more ADV boxsets now. They had Azumanga Daioh, Chrono Crusade, Excel Saga and Full Metal Panic as well! Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!

Your One Piece collection is just mad. The pictures are what I would expect to see in a speciality magazine. You should send them in to Newtype USA or Neo Magazine or something. I'm sure they'll get published. :P Which reminds me... maybe its time I subscribed to Neo again.

Here is my anime collection as of late. The only thing its missing is my Cromartie High School boxset that I forgot to include because its on top of my DVD player right now (because its what I'm currently watching) and wasn't in with the rest of my collection. Not going to bother resizing the images much as you wouldn't be able to make out what anything is otherwise.

I decided not to resubscribe to them when my subscription ran out because I realised I rarely agreed with anything they said. Their review of the second Claymore DVD was atrocious. They described it as 'borderline hentai'. Shows how clueless they are. I think perhaps its time to give them another chance though.

I've had just over 200 manga for over half a year now. I've just been buying the odd DVD here and there and living off the rest of my money. I'll look for a job during the summer though, then hopefully I can actually have the luxury to spend once again.

Also, think I might start buying the Viz Big Vagabond volumes and sell the individual ones I have. Buying 32 individual volumes is just going to cost too much and the publishers don't make it easy, volume 9, 15 and 16 are myteriously out of stock everywhere just like the Evangelion volumes. Viz always do a great job with their manga but I wish they would actually print enough volumes so places wouldn't go out of stock for months.
