Lol?

Google has been ordered to hand over logs of every video watched by every user on YouTube to Viacom. They even requested the full source code to YouTube, but it was declined.

Seems a bit OTT.

That would put me off youtube tbh. Not that I watch anything wrong on there.. I dont even know if there is anything wrong on there.

Its pathetic from big mega-companies like Viacom.

Lol, Google won't do anything they don't want.

They've been ordered to by a judge, they have no option.

This is a real intrusion into our privacy.

DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) is getting out of control really. Something should be done about it.

Wow that's ridiculous. Anyhow, why is it legal for users to upload things like music to YouTube?

Uhh what, couldn't the UK Supreme Court step in and order them not to give out UK details?

I suppose because of the many ways they can be downloaded now, i'm not sure

I think everyone should spam google now to make the log bigger so viacom need to sift through loads :P

My personal logs and persnal details are being handed over to a company when I was told that they wouldn't be? That bothers me.

Why are they forced to hand them over anyway?

Viacom are claiming that youtube have broken copyright restrictions.

Not sure what they're going to do with our I.P addresses and video logs though.

Viacom filed suit against Google in March 2007, seeking more than $1 billion in damages for allowing users to upload clips of Viacom's copyright material. Google argues that the law provides a safe harbor for online services so long as they comply with copyright takedown requests.

They have to give 4TB of hard drives over :O!

Google's senior litigation counsel Catherine Lacavera said in a statement: "We are disappointed the court granted Viacom's over-reaching demand for viewing history.
"We will ask Viacom to respect users' privacy and allow us to anonymise the logs before producing them under the court's order."

So before they give them to them, there going to get rid of all the infomation such as ips and usernames etc..
So all they will have is a log of the views of the videos, not who has viewed them.

So if Google do that, then I'm fine with them handing over the logs.

Viacom just want to sue Google for their money.

Google is within the law.

Well, if their copyrighted material is being illegally uploaded to the site, they have the right to search through whats been uploaded.. BUT i dont think they have the right to our IPs ect!

I mean, i know they are a big company but ANYTHING can happen (correct me if im wrong)
