With colours like Blue, Red, Pink etc. I would dye it Blonde (Bleach) then put the other colour on top.
You could do purple? black? (Without dying it blonde first).

I didn't say blonde! I said dye it blonde first if you want to put bright "loud" colours on because they wouldn't show too well on dark hair?

Thats actually not true, well not with me and my friends we did that ourselfs then put purple on and it went darker. My mate had it done at the hairdresser and it went darker, without blonde the purple went lighter.
lol..

Yes, i've had blue before, having blue without blonde makes it go lighter, with blonde makes it go darker.
Well did with me and hairdressers :)
I've had;
Blue (with/out blond)
Purple (with/out blond)

Yeah, I would personally dye it blonde first because I would want it dark. :). I suppose what colours you want.

Of course dyeing it blond and then putting another colour on top wouldn't work as planned because bleaching hair from dark brown would completely ruin the condition, thus meaning the damaged hair wouldn't be able to hold the dye.
Getting one big highlight, like a fringe or something looks so lame and stereotypically "emo", it's not even "in" anymore.

Well, I know people who have done it fine.

I bet within the first 3 washes it had faded dramatically

Not as far as I know.
I actually dyed my hair blonde and it went ginger so I dyed it dark brown the same day, that was absolutely fine.

I've dyed my hair blond, then purple the same day in the same time actually, over each other, blond then purple. And my hair was fine?
I've dyed blond, then it went a ugly color so i dyed it brown, then a week later i added blue. over the same area nad my hair was still fine?
My hair doesn't get damaged, even hairdressers agree (: So that's not always true.

I dyed my hair about a week ago at hairdressers
They bleeched it first, because with all shades of red if you dye it blonde first then put it on, it'll be more prominent and bright.
don't know about other colours,
but obviously purple would be brighter on brown hair than blonde hair because the hair would have more dye on the blonde hair meaning it'd go darker.
But yeah
my hair was bleeched then red put on, i've washed it everyday twice, then condition
not faded a bit.
kinda wishing it was though, cause sometimes it looks pink it went so bright :P

Well it depends on how well conditioned your hair is, then. That's what I was trying to get across.

IF you want a bright colour on it, bleach it first then do it.
The colour will be brighter, and won't fade as quickly!
