Recently on HXF there has been a burst in users running more than one OS.

Maybe you could add :-
VMWare Fusion
VirtualBox
Boot Camp
Parallels.

These would maybe be under "Running more OS' on a Mac"

Oh when the day comes when Macs get enough market share and virus creators care enough to infect them I will come to this thread and simply say "i told you so"

You also don't need those on a Windows PC either unless you're an idiot and love clicking on ANTIVIRUSXP2008.EXE

It's ok but I hate the bloody look of the thing. I just hope Adium or even Microsoft bring webcam support soon.

You do that... I wonder when, 12th of Never? Sorry but the whole market-share excuse is a load of junk. All you hardcore Windows fans realised that it actually was impossible to get a virus on a Mac and decided to blame it on market-share. Sorry, but if it's just a market-share issue, wouldn't one person have made just one Mac virus now just for holding the title of being the first ever Mac virus creator? I would think so, but obviously nobody had to you loose. Sorry.

I'm a mac user and I never denied that they can't get viruses. Any OS can get viruses, I mean its not hard. Its just Mac users have fewer then what Window users may get. I mean, all you have to do is keep your system clean and a good Anti-Virus software and your good to go.

It's still advisable to use Anti Virus on OS X, if you aren't running any, be careful!

Also, remember if you are running Windows within boot camp, you are still prone to the Windows viruses, the Macintosh hardware doesn't stop them, still run virus protection!

LOL! Obviously... And you don't need to 'be careful' without virus protection on a Mac...

Yes you do. There are viruses for OS X and if you download one by accident you don't know the concequences.

I'm not avoiding your posts, but I'm sorry... there's what a few 'malicious' applications for OS X and yes there is one that spreads via the iChat messaging service, but, they don't do any harm to the system. They just 'spread', who cares if it doesn't do anything. There is no way you can kill your system from a malicious app on OS X.

No, but that is still classed as a virus. Its rare for a virus to harm your PC in Windows, as well.

Google Define for Virus:
"A virus is a program written to cause mischief or damage to a computer system. A mild virus might only be a slight nuisance, or even amusing. ..."

So there are Viruses for Macs, and if the last sentance was implying viruses on Windows can, then I don't see how they can if UAC is on, its just like the password prompt on OS X.

Yes there is, you are totally clueless aren't you? And yes the market share does matter, the more people that can be infected and used, the more likely that the virus / trojan writers will think "hmm i can infect these computers" and write viruses for them, and with the majority of OS X users having no anti virus they are going to become a very big target very quickly. Apple will collapse under it's own weight.

Don't you dare call me clueless... as far as I'm aware you don't even own a Mac so I know more than you on the subject.

You don't need to be too careful :S The word is "aware" that it is possible, not bolten down the hatches and expect the worse :P

Also, hasn't DaveTaylor done this before? There's a thread at the top of this forum which is sticked that has alot more information :/
