Haha, +REP.
You must be on terrible ISP's for them to limit you that badly..
Consider switching?

Phone up Tiscali and start shouting at the indians, lmao.
I hate Tiscali support, they treat you like an idiot and then don't fix your problem. They've sent me like 3 modems!

so you're all offered fantastic plans, but when it boils down to it, if you use all that extra transfer you paid for you get limited? -is glad I have a good ISP who doesn't limit my precious 10mbps-

I have a 30gb download/transfer limit which is fine for most people ;).

I've never been limited and I do a fair amount of downloading lol.
However, I do agree on the point that Tiscali support is rubbish. It took around 12 emails to get them to answer a simple question. They don't take the time to read you an email, its just copied and pasted.
I mean, I emailed them using my name and saying "Look, I want to upgrade my plan but I also want a free wireless router. But it says both of these will extend the length of my contract, so will it be for 12 months or 24?" - Now after around a months wait on getting a reply, they said "I'm sorry, we cannot help you as you are not the bill payer. To be added to the list of administrators for this account please send us all this information"
Seriously? So I went back on the form, used my mums name and after about 10 more emails (most of them were duplicates!), I finally upgraded my plan and got my free router.

But I mean, what's the point of buying a plan with (for example) 12mbps down, then when you exceed the use of 6mbps your ISP limits you to 1mbps?

They only limit you if you go past your quoata, it's the same on all the ISPS, they check to see who uses up most of their services/bandwhich and target them to keep it fair so it doesn't disrupt others. Thing is 30gb is alot of badnwhich and not many people use it up, if I want unlimited which I probably don't need I'll have to pay double what I do so there really isn't much point in doing so (I don't exceed my limit often anyway :p)

It doesn't matter how fast your internet speed is for xbox live unless you want to host (>1mb upload). It's all about what your ping rate which is how long it takes for you to connect to the server.

Mines unlimited o.0No such thing as unlimited broadband, it's 'Fair usage' broadband. Basically this means the ISP can cut you off at their own discretion at any time. If you begin using up your WHOLE connection at peak times you'll be spotted soon enough as you're slowing everyone else down, and then you get throttled.

BeThere are unlimited and there is no fair usage policy. Same with the Sky ones which are on there own equipment.

Sky is a Broadband Reseller for Easynet (Which I am currently on) and they do infact limit people's internet for over use.

That must have recently changed as sky didn't used to throttle, not on them, I'm with Be/02. Also, Sky own easynet.

Uh, I'm with "Telefonica", the main Spanish ISP and phone company. My current speed is like 3mb but it's soon to be 6mb for 1 euro extra a month. Anyway, I download a lot and it has never been limited so it's good I suppose. :P

I was under the impression that regardless of over exceeding plans, the ISP would restrict users.

I'm so glad Orange have no issues :D
I would phone up and tell them what you think :/ Limiting the usage of your internet is a bit... backwards. It's 2008, we're meant to be technologically advancing, not limiting!
