Improving Internet Speed?

Ok, well my laptop speed to the internet is 11.0 Mbps
How can i make it even faster?
Stupid question i know, but i need it faster.

If you use an ethernet lead instead of the Wi Fi it tends to increase speed.

Your net speed is 5.3mb.

The speed you get on laptop like 11mb or 100mb etc is the speed of your network, for filing sharing etc, wireless is always worse than proper wire connection, wire connection usually gets 100-700mb wireless is usually under 50

Network speeds and internet speeds are different. I can move files around my network at around 100mbps but my internet speeds are only 2mbps

Improve network speed? or internet.

To improve network you can use wired connection :P or set up priority access if your network supports it.

I get 54Mbps but I'm using a dongle (love that word :P), and my dad's wired and he gets more.

So if I force him to wire me in I'll get better speeds?

Yep as for wireless gets distractions etc from obstacles in your house and loses performance.

I'm on 20mbit/sec, that's all I can get from VM yet I can transfer files across my computer at 6-700mbit/sec it's fabulous. Just need 300mbit internet now.

So 11mb/s is his network speed? Ok.

Check signal strength. (same place you read 11mb/s from). If it's poor/low then the problem is occuring between your router and computer. Check there's no fridges, tvs, microwaves, thick walls, cordless phones or other electrical applicances between your router and your computer. If your router is next to the TV then move it. This can dramatically increase signal strength which will in turn mean a better network connection.

If your signal strength is high, very high or excellent then the problem is your router. Check it's not set to only allow 11mb/s speeds in the control panel (consult your router's manual or do a google search to find out how to do this). If its set fine then your router is probably old or just crap. Get a new one, they're only about £25.

Your 5.something mb/s is from your computer to the internet server being used to do the test. This can seem very low because of your poor wireless connection. I suspect a 5.something mb/s reading on a poor/malfunctioning wireless connection would actually equate to 10mb/s in ideal circumstances.

To get the best of an internet connection, go wired. If you use Cat5e+ network cable instead of a G wireless connection you'll notice the difference especially in your ping which is important for online gaming in particular.

I get 2.5mbps but I live in the country so that's the max for everyone in my village. So annoying!
