This will build on what I already have, so if there are parts missing, I already have them:

*note* I don't know when I'll be getting this, should be in a few months maybe.

Oh and possibly a new case, not decided on one yet.

Intel RAID Controller SRCSAS18E - Storage controller (RAID) - 8 Channel - SATA-150 / SAS - RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 - PCI Express x8 (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/115995)

Samsung SpinPoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB Hard Drive SATAII *32MB Cache* - OEM (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/143288)

Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6 iP45 Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/145657)

they're all the things i could possibly change, not intending on changing gfx, cooler or sata cables.

Lol it wont be 8TB, it'll be more like 5 when it's in RAID 50.

Not bad. I'm guessing the raid controller will be going in one of the x16 slots as the board doesn't have an x8. Why such long sata cables? The standard lenght ones that come with the motherboard should be pleanty long enough, you'll just need more of them.

I'll use the cable management slots to take the length of the cable with the new case.

Yeah, but do they need to be that long in the first place? What case is it going in?

No idea, it's just there to make 100% sure they'll fit.

Thats more of a high-load server I/O controller.. you don't really need something that expensive for a few home SATA hard drives (Especially not the SAS support). Not to mention it only supports SATA-150.

why do you need 8X1TB HDD's? Unless your gonna RAID all 8 to be 1TB or 2TB?

Raid 50 is stupid, why do you need 5TB? :S Just buy 4 HDD's rather than 8?

For all you know he may have a load of 1080p bluray movies at 6gb each it all adds up.

I know many people who have around this sort of storage, go down mac rumors and its the regular to see people with 3tb storage +.

Surely 1080p Blu-Ray movies are more like 30 - 50GB? :S :P

~8 - 13GB. Depending on the length of the film and bitrate. You can get direct rips which are about 40GB, but the majority of them are compressed ones. Still look almost as good as the original.
