Regarding the paying, its not the DJs downloading that they want payment for, its for all of you hearing it. Its the "redistribution" of music that they want money for.

Im glad, im sick of habbo radios. Little geeks who think they're 'DJ's' by playing songs to ALL YOU HABBO USERS OUT THERE. BRAPPPPPPPPPPP.

Yeah, the said £200 for 10 listeners a hour... that's just ridiculous...

I've been reading about this on CH. It's pretty stupid that fansites had to remove the VIP features and then this happens. It means that most sites are going to struggle because they lack the money to pay for it whereas if they had VIP they probably could.

Absoloutely terrible.
A repeat, absoloutely terrible.

They expect Habbo Fansites to survive under nothing :S. And yeah, what Jess said, word for word.
It's got nothing to do with Habbo, it's the law of the United Kingdom.

That was answered on the first 5 pages, that is if you had been bothered to read the thread.

can i just clear something up, are they just some random organisation saying they want all this money for one of their 'licenses' or are they some official thing or what?

If they weren't official fansites wouldn't be paying.

I actually hope sulakes fanbase goes down dramatically, as they are showing spitefullness here, why is it that only official fansites can have vip features? when some un-official ones are bigger than some official? and why suddenly is there a £200 fee thats sucky

Clearly you have not read the facts.

Sulake are not the people charging us.
Non-Official fansitrs should not charge either.
We should always have paid the fee, we just did it illegally instead.

-neither official or non-official fansites can have vip features.
-it's not sulake charging
-there's suddenly a fee because the PPL suddenly found habbo fansite radios

code your own radio ftw.

You don't pay for the song, though. You pay for the rights to broadcast the songs...so unless you want to produce your own songs then coding your own radio will just be utterly pointless.

code your own radio ftw.

its the licence fees to pay for the music e.g for royalties that go to the actual artists :)

'PPL' are only allowed to deal with British websites/companies/servers etc, they do not have any authority outside of Britain. So one choice could be to just run your server and everything else outside of Britain (if you dont already) and outside of America. Though they will most likely chase you up eventually using the other Countries Goverment version of PPL. You cannot be held responsible of who connects to your website from Britain and America while it's ran outside of those countries.

'PPL' can't close down radios that only play unlicensed/commercial use only/independent artists etc. They can only close you down if you are illegally playing songs that fall under the copyright laws and the sales acts etc etc. So other choices would be to only use demo's and white label'd tracks, Independent artists, "Public Domain" tracks and Official "Creative use only" mixes (which usually have someone shout "Creative use only" a few times on the track.. usually the actual artist on his demos), also find a list of artists/songs that are signed to a "creative common license", which are songs/bands that allow commercial use of their stuff without any need of proper licensing which you can find a list of here:

http://creativecommons.org/find/ (http://creativecommons.org/find/)
http://opsound.org/

They will most likely ask for a list of the material you use, which you dont even have to show them.

BTW - It's pretty obvious Habbo snitched all of the sites up to get rid of the radio feeds.. way too coincidential that this happens just as Habbo starts clamping down on everything fansites do, i recommend anyone with a site checks the prices because £600 seems very high and i'd go straight through the PPL and not Habbo itself, also if you aren't a british website then there is no need to get in touch with 'PPL'.

Habbo have actually known that they were going to do this for quite some time now. But they didn't give any notice to fansite owners. Now they have this big problem of all fansites closing down and it's through no fault of there own for not warning people. If Habbo warned people that this was going to happen, many fansite would be able to save up money.

That was answered on the first 5 pages, that is if you had been bothered to read the thread.

I have better things to do than sit and read through 12+ pages of this.
I don't understand why it's a big deal. It was going to happen anyway, it's going to happen and it will happen.

for a start i used to be a DJ? they give you the key/serial and stuff to download sam illegally for a start.

Like a year or two ago when i listened to it if they didn't have a song it would be "brb going to download that for you now"

Some DJ's have what 1k+ songs? and you're telling me they bought them legally; no.

Why would DJ's buy songs that they don't like?

and like 90% of people download music; probably 100% of habboxlive download em. ;)

While the worlds down lets ruin it more; vote David Cameron.

Actually i only download a few songs i have +2k Songs and alot of them are from CD's as my dad is a proffesional so they are already on the computer! Ask for the licensing it is abit out of order however i can see where they are coming from. But for a small online radio it is really harsh.

Download the songs and put a fart sound in the middle, walla your own song.

and then get sued for plagiarism

Not really no fault of their own, they should have looked into if what they were doing was legal/if you needed a license.

that's like someone pirating dvds then going 'wot!?! no-one told me this was illegal' when they get caught - a pathetic excuse

p.s. i just want to make it clear that i understand that fansites aren't using this excuse

In terms of listeners we are the biggest Habbo Radio out there :D
And if Habbox can afford to pay this where as other fansites cannot it can benifit Habbox:D.
